Niki's gaze turned stern as well. "He was about to hurt Mae." Everyone's eyes widened at his words. What the hell was going on? It didn't make sense. "What?" Sunghoon's voice turned livid as he walked back to the chateau. "fuck.." Jungwon said as we all followed Sunghoon inside.
Mae Pov
"Wait, Niki!" I yelled as I followed him into the estate. "She isn't here." Nikki stopped walking as we almost made it up the stairs. "What the hell? How could we leave her alone like that?" He sounded defeated when he spoke. As if he could've prevented this situation from happening. If she wanted to leave she would've done so eventually. I lifted my shoulders briefly. I didn't understand what was going on, but something bad was happening. I know Niki didn't trust her but I didn't expect her to leave like this. 
I hated this feeling. "Someone bribed one of your men." The familiar voice spoke. I turned around to face James as he was standing down the stairs. I walked down to talk to him. It didn't feel good to look down at him from the stairs. "What do you mean?" James let out a breath. "The man that was supposed to guard Luna and make sure she stayed in her room, was somehow bribed to take Luna away." He said. "We've captured him, he's being held in the kitchen." I looked back at Niki and waited for his reaction. 
He just nodded at me as he made his way down the stairs as well. I was glad he was going to join me. "Aren't we supposed to wait for Sunghoon?" I asked as we followed James. Niki shook his head. "It's going to be okay, we need to speak to this person as soon as possible" He whispered to me. James stopped walking as he looked at us. "I don't know if you should trust everything he's going to tell you," James said warning us beforehand. "He doesn't seem to be sorry for what he did. I have a weird feeling about him." I nodded as Niki opened the door and stormed in. 
The guy was sitting on a chair in the kitchen. He seemed to be unbothered about the entire situation. "Ah, you've come to interrogate me how fun!" He said excitedly as he met my eye. He looked a bit weird as he looked at me. As if I was some sort of snack. It sent shivers down my spine but I decided to ignore it.  I didn't want to give him the satisfaction that his expression did something to me. "You probably wonder what is going on?" He spoke. His voice was low and unbothered. It was almost as if he was enjoying the situation. 
Niki chuckled as he leaned against the kitchen counter and crossed his arms. An amusing smile showed up on his face. "Are you always this annoying?" He asked him, causing the guy to chuckle. "I am only annoying to you because I know things you don't. But don't worry for a decent amount I'm willing to talk." If there's something I learned from situations like this it's to never give in when someone demands something from you. "We're not going to pay you. It's either you talk or we'll make you." I spoke in an emotionless tone. I don't know why but I felt like trying to copy Sunghoon's approach was the best thing to do. It made me look unbothered. 
I may look like this situation didn't affect me but my heart was beating so fast, I could only hope he wasn't able to see the desperation in my eyes.
Niki smirked at me as he heard me speak. I don't know why but he seemed to be proud of the way I handled the situation. It made me feel a lot more confident. "You don't have to pay with money." The boy winked as he leaned back into his seat and pointed to his lap. I took a deep breath to try to look unbothered but I felt extremely frustrated that this was the situation. Why do women have to experience situations like this? "If you think like that again I'll make sure you lose the thing you want payment for," Niki spoke as he grabbed a knife from the knifeblock and smirked down at the guy.
He cleared his throat. "I won't tell you anything then." The guy spoke. "I can only be bribed with one thing. I do not wish for money." I could tell Niki was about to throw hands but I decided to say something to stop him. "What did Luna bribe you with?" His eyes turned excitedly as he licked his lips. This guy gave me shivers. 
"I can show you." He said as he stood up and ran toward me, holding a sharp object. Somehow I didn't feel the need to react to his movements because I knew Niki was holding a knife as well. I felt protected. Before the guy could reach me Niki threw the knife into his chest. Causing the men to fall to the floor immediately. "well, that's a shame." James said as he walked from the door to the man who was lying lifeless on the floor. "now the marble floor is ruined." Niki chuckled as he pulled the knife out of this man's chest. "I'll get it fixed." He said to James.
"Are you okay?" Niki put his hand on my shoulder in order to comfort me. It was weird but I didn't need to be comforted. I felt emotionless as I looked down at the body. He was still blinking but I could tell he was about to leave this world in a couple of seconds. He started choking on his own blood as his eyes met mine. 
This situation reminded me of the time I killed Carollo. His body was lying lifeless on the floor after I stabbed him. Images of that night came flooding back into my mind and no matter how hard I tried, I wasn't able to think of anything else when I looked down at the body. "Mae," Niki poked my head as he raised a brow.
"I am fine. Could you get Sunghoon for me?" I asked him knowing he would do as I said. He nodded but kept looking at me, trying to make sure I was really alright before leaving. When he finally left James was about to get some of our staff to get rid of the body, but before he was able to leave I stopped him. "James, what do you know?" He stopped walking as he looked back at me. "I-" Ever since James spoke to Niki and me on those stairs I had a feeling he knew more than he let us know.
As I saw him struggling I walked up to him. "Please tell me." He hesitated for a moment before pulling some papers out of his pockets. He handed them to me and I started to read it. It was my mother's handwriting. She had been looking into the Lee family because they had something to do with the disappearance of Sunghoon's father. She knew he wasn't dead. "Mea!" Sunghoon ran into the kitchen as he looked at me with a worried look on his face. "It's okay," I said as I tried to reassure him. 
Sunghoon looked at the body and back at me. It was as if he didn't believe me when I said I was okay. I know it was hard to believe because normally I would cry, but I didn't feel any emotion at this point. Sunghoon walked up to me as he pulled my head to his chest, hugging me tightly. I hugged him back as I took in his warmth. 
Not long after, Jungwon and the others came in. I let go of the hug with Sunghoon and looked at them. Somehow my emotions came to the surface when I saw Jungwon. His presence was exactly what I needed at this moment. It had nothing to do with my feelings for Sunghoon but I missed Jungwon so much lately. I missed the heart-to-hearts we used to have and I felt like I had a lot of emotions I needed to get rid of. He looked at me as if to ask promising to hug me so I nodded as tears fell down my face. Sunghoon sighed as he looked at the floor. "Get someone to clean the body." He said to James.
I knew Sunghoon was okay with Jungwon and me. It was pure friendship and there was nothing romantic between us anymore. Even though that was the case I knew he was jealous of the fact that I was now crying in his arms. I couldn't help it. I don't know why I wasn't able to cry when Sunghoon came in. Or when he was the one hugging me. I think it was because of the fact that he had a lot on his mind as well. I wanted to keep him from more things to worry about so my body shot down, but I'm not really sure if that was really the case. 
I felt extremely guilty but I couldn't help it. Jungwon knew how to calm me down and it was exactly what I needed in this moment.

I hope everything will be okay between Sunghoon and Mae.... there seems to be a lot of tension.
