"Tom!"

"Guilty as charged." He smiled and looked at Kenny. "You ok, mate?"

Kenny nodded,"Better now you're here. I take it you saw the news?"

Tom grinned, winking.

"Yeah, don't worry, there's damage limitation on its way. That's kind of why I'm here, well that and this...." Tom leaned down and grabbed Alice by the hand, pulling her up to stand. Without a further word, he kissed her.

Slow, soft, full of quiet desire, it was the single most intimate and sensual kiss she'd ever experienced. His lips were whisper soft, like warm velvet. His tongue probing and insistent, parting her lips and tasting her gently.  The feeling of his goatee against her face making her pulse race and her legs weak. She thanked the Lord he was holding her. She'd quite simply have collapsed otherwise.

With a contented sigh, they broke the kiss and just stood smiling at each other silently, foreheads touching.

Kenny grinned and walked away.  Even before he'd turned away as they kissed, he knew. He just hoped they wouldn't take too long to recognise it, too.

Alice turned her head and called after him. "See you later, Kenny.  Love you!"

He didn't turn, just raised a hand in acknowledgement, making an 'ok' sign as he wandered away happily in the sunshine.

Content, Alice turned back and smiled up at Tom.  He squeezed her a little and kissed her again, then released her to hold her hand.

"Come on, let's go. I want to talk to you, theres things you need to know.  Things I need to confess."

"The lie." Her voice was soft, soothed by the confidence that now, now she wasn't afraid of the truth. Whatever it was, they could face it together.

They walked along the boardwalk, away from the convention centre and the crowds. Hand in hand, they pointed out this and that, laughed and joked. Tom stopped and bought two iced drinks from a street stall. Handing her one, they continued their stroll, people becoming fewer and fewer.  Eventually, they came to an isolated stretch of the bayfront.

The seashore was a stretch of pale white sand dotted with clumps of grass.  Little hillocks perfect for sitting on as they watched the water.

Birds wheeled and called above their heads, dark splotches in the azure sky.  In front of them, the darker turquoise of the Pacific, dotted with white foam. The wind was warm, and the drinks cool.

Tom took off his jacket and laid it on the ground, helping her sit on it before plopping down beside her.

"Happy darling?" He asked, sipping his iced tea. He looked at her over the rim of the cup and his eyes glinted.  He half buried the cup in the sand and lay on his side, looking up at her. The top buttons of his shirt were undone and she glimpsed his chest, the light smattering of hair making her shiver with anticipation.  Would she one day see it all?

"Mhmm, very. Thank you." She nodded and sipped her own. As she drank, a drop of icecold condensation dropped on her and ran down the front of her tshirt, making her squeal. Tom roared with laughter, flopping over onto his back.

Alice smirked and dipped a finger in her drink. As he lay, eyes closed laughing up a storm, she let the icy drips fall on his chest and he let out a yell.

"Laugh at me would you eh?" She taunted, now pulling a full icecube from her cup and setting the rest aside.  Caging the melting cube in her fingers she held it over him, as he wriggled and tried to grab it.  At the last minute, she popped it into her mouth.

"Oh no, you don't get away with teasing me that easily." He grabbed her and pulled her down to him, covering her mouth with his.  Before she knew it, his tongue was probing, his mouth sucking on hers.  The icecube was duly shared.

Now he pulled back and crunched it.  His mouth suitably frozen, he attached it to the sun warmed skin on her neck.

"Ooohhh" she moaned as the cold made her whole body react. "Oh Thomas...."

When he removed his lips, a perfect pink bloom to her skin marked her as his.

"Now you are mine and mine alone kitten." He growled and his eyes, previously the colour of the ocean were dark pools of desire. "My own kitten...."

They kissed for a while longer, until eventually, and with a groan, Tom sat up.

"Darling, I hate to be that man, but before I go somewhere I can't - wouldn't want to - come back from..." he smiled and she blushed delicately. "Before I forget Im a gentleman..."

"Oh God please do..." she muttered none too quietly making him smile.

"Before I forget...." he repeated patiently, "I need to ask you something and I also need to tell you something." He stroked her hand where it lay on his chest.  Looking at her intently, he smiled. "You first.... now, as I arrived, I believe you were saying something?"

He held her hand tightly, smiling up at her, his eyes were filled with a soft look that made her tremble. "You're shaking darling, please don't be afraid."

Alice took a deep breath. "I... I was explaining... to Kenny that... that men like you don't fall in love with people like me.  No matter if I loved you.... " she paused and closed her eyes, steeling herself to be brave, "and I do. I love you very much, you had always said you dont believe in love at first sight.," she waited, heart pounding, blood rushing in her ears. She'd done it.  She'd told him.

"I lied." He whispered, his hand squeezing hers. "Look at me darling."
She opened her eyes. He sat up and cupped her face in his impossibly long  fingers. He smiled at her, "I lied to you and the world. Even today, I lied."

She frowned and he smiled. "I lied then because I didnt know any better and today I lied because I wanted you to be the first to know... I've fallen in love. Head over heels, completely and utterly. I fell in love that very first moment. In the hall."

Her soul left her body and her mind screamed. "You did? You have?" She could barely form the words.

"Yes." Tom whispered as his mouth descended on hers, "with you."
