"Damnit!" He snarled, a heavy English-like accent. "Not one of these old blocks of parchment have anything I need! And these scrolls are damn near worthless!" He banged on the table angrily, jaw clenched. I jumped back ever so slightly, startled by the rage emanating from this man. Zielo gave my hand a reassuring squeeze before turning back toward him.

"I swear, even in my days here as a student these made better kindling than sources of information! Even more useless than those bloody textbooks they forced me to read in first year!"

He growled again, pacing up and down in fury. His eyes began to glow a bright, electric yellow as his clenched fists began to spark. The energy within me spiked as if being spurred on or amplified by an outside source. My eyes glowed brightly in the darkness, which Zielo promptly pulled my hood over and turned away from the direction of the man on the other side of the shelf. I heard a few deep, rugged breaths from the man, before suddenly, the energy surge settled down. Zielo let go of my hood, meeting my glare before turning his attention back to the pacing man in front of us.

"Calm down, Phillip, calm down." The man spoke to himself, running his hands through his hair under the hood of his cloak. My eyes narrowed.

'Phillip...?' I wondered. '...weird...where have I heard that name before?'

"Making a racket and getting flustered won't held you find information about the stones." The man, Phillip, continued. He took another deep breath, before turning his back to us and examining the books on the shelf behind him, pacing past them slowly.

A soft yellow glow poked through the bag that was strapped to the side of his leg as soft popping and crackling sounds rang through the air. My chest vibrated once more as the energy within me surged. Phillip's fists sparked as he spoke again.

"The Mindstone might not be as easy to find as the first two, but there are still seven more left to collect. Shifting focus may be the best call for now. Patience will lead you to the rest."

My eyes widened. My hunch was right! There was a gem thief in Arceus trying to steal- no, collect the Stones of Power. I turned to Zielo, and he turned back to me with a similar expression of dread plastered across his face. I turned back to Phillip as he continued pacing slowly.

"Then, once you have all ten and reform the Sphere of the Ancients, you can begin your plan and Arceus will finally fall to nothing but cinder and ash."

I let out a silent gasp, turning to Zielo with a mortified expression. He looked back at me, the same feeling of dread spread across his face. A sudden jolt of electricity then sparked into my hand.

"Ow!"

Zielo quickly let go of my hand before covering his mouth after realising just how loudly he yelped. Phillip stopped pacing, his body turned towards us. I could feel his pale eyes piercing right past the shelves and staring right at me. He knew we were here.

And before I knew it, he was standing right next to us.

A swift kick sent me crashing into Zielo. The sound of crackling lightning sparked as coils of yellow light circled around the thief's hands.

"Didn't your parents teach you it was rude to pry into the business of others?" Phillip snarled, stepping closer to us as he charged up the lightning in his hand. Zielo's eyes glowed slightly in panic while the surge of energy crackling in my chest only grew more chaotic as it spread to my entire body. The surface of my skin tingled as Phillip readied the bolt of lightning in his fist.

And in that split second, something clicked.

It felt as though time stood still, even if for just that single moment. Without thinking, I grabbed Zielo by the hand and sped away, just as the bolt left Phillip's hand and darted to the ground, scorching it slightly as it made contact.
