When I get home, I see Billie's car still in my driveway. I guess she's still here. I unlock my front door and go inside. I put my stuff on the island in my kitchen and walked to the living room. I see Billie asleep on the couch. Shit. I walk over to her and admire her. She's so beautiful. And she looks so peaceful. I smile, looking at her.

I make my way to the bathroom to take a shower. Once I got out, I grabbed the box of food I took home from work and started eating. I turn around to see Billie walking over to me.

"My apologies, did I wake you?" I ask her.

"Don't use your proper English in front of me," I laugh. "No, you didn't wake me,"

"Good," I look her up and down. "You're wearing my clothes,"

"Oh, yeah. I took a shower. I can give them back to you if you'd like," I shake my head.

"It's alright. You look better in them," I see a small smile form on her face.

"Can we talk?" She asks.

"If this is about last night, I am sorry. I shouldn't have ripped the notebook out of your hands. It's just that I have a lot of things written in those. Private thoughts and feelings. Nothing that I want to be read yet," I tell her. She nods.

"I completely understand that, and it shouldn't have opened something without asking first," she says. I smile. "Anyway, since you are home, and we got that out of the way, I believe I better be going. I shouldn't be in your way any longer," she says. I watch as she grabs all of her belongings and leaves. I sigh. Did I mess something up?

-

"Texting at work?" Cassie says. I look up and quickly put my phone away.

"Texting? Who's texting?" I ask. She laughs.

"I never see you on your phone at work. What's got you on it now? Or is it a who?"

"Nobody important,"

"Is that so? Is that why your face is all red?"

"My face isn't red. Is it?" I ask, covering my face.

"No, but would it be important if it were?" I roll my eyes.

"You're an asshole. I'm gonna go make my rounds at my tables. Once that clock hits eight, I'm leaving," I tell her.

"You still have half an hour!" She yells as I walk away.

"And it couldn't go fast enough," I mumble to myself.

At eight, I finally got to leave, and I made my way out to my car. I tried to turn it on, but it didn't start.

"No, don't do this to me," I say outlook to myself. I try multiple times, but it never starts. I sigh. What am I supposed to do now? I grab my phone and call my brother.

"Hello?" He says.

"What are you doing?"

"At the bar with some friends. Why?"

"Damnit! My car won't start," I tell him. He laughs.

"You really need to get a new one,"

"You think I can afford a new one? I'm a waitress for God's sake. I barely make enough to pay rent. I'm just lucky enough that I don't have to pay that,"

"Do you have a friend you can call? What about Cassie?"

"She closes tonight. And I have no other friends. Well, actually, I think I do have someone to call," I say and hang up. I pull up Billie's contact and call her. I almost gave up after the third ring, but then she answered.

"Y/n?" She says.

"Yeah, I hope I'm not bothering you,"

"No, not at all. What's up?"

"Do you think you could come pick me up from work? My car is not starting," I tell her. She laughs.

"Yeah, I'll come get you. Give me a bit,"

"Okay, thanks," I say and end the call.

I sit in my car and wait. After about fifteen minutes, I watch Billie pull in, and she parks next to me. I got out of my arms and got into hers.

"Thanks for picking me up," I say as she starts driving.

"No problem. You're always welcome to call if you need anything. Also, we haven't talked in a while," she says.

"You were just at my house a week ago. And we've texted since then," I say.

"True," I was quiet.

"Sorry for making you drive all the way over here to get me," she shrugs.

"It's fine. I had nothing better to do anyway. Besides, I needed to get out of my house for once," I nod.

We finally got to my house, and Billie left. I get inside, shower, and get around for the night. As I get into bed, I look at my phone to see a text from Billie.

Billie: Goodnight <3

I smile and text her back.

Me: Goodnight

I don't know what it is about this girl, but I am always thinking about her. I'm starting to think it's because she's nice to me. I usually get really attached to people who treat me well. Maybe that's why I like being friends with her. She makes me feel good about myself. I haven't known her very long. It's been only a month now. I feel safe when I'm around her. I don't know why. I just do.

Just as I'm about to fall asleep I hear my phone start buzzing. I sigh and just ignore it. After a few more minutes it starts buzzing again. Who could possibly want anything this late? I grab my phone and see Cassie's name on my screen. I answer it.

"What could you possibly want at this hour?" I ask her.

"Let me in," she says. She sounds like she's crying.

"What?"

"I'm at your door. Just please, let me in," I quickly get out of bed and head to the front door. I open the door and Cassie looks at me with tears in her eyes.

"What happened to you?" I ask her.

"Ben... he- I-" she stops and just breaks down crying. I lead her into the house and over to the couch. She sits down and I go to the kitchen to get her a glass of water. I hand it to her and she takes it. "Thank you,"

"Now let me ask again," I said and sat next to her. "What happened? What did Ben do?"

"When I got home after work all of his stuff was gone. I tried to call him but he blocked me on everything. I don't know what I did. Or why he left. There was no warning. He just... left," she says. I can tell she's trying not to cry. I pull her into a hug. I'm not great at comforting people. I never know what to say. A hug is the best I can offer. She cries on my shoulder and I run my hand up and down her back. "Can I stay here tonight? I don't think I can go home yet,"

"Of course. Stay here as long as you'd like. You can have my room or take the guest bedroom if you'd like," I tell her. She nods.

"The guest bedroom is fine,"

"Okay," we both get up and I lead her to the guest bedroom. "Let me go get you some clothes to sleep in," I make my way to my room, grab some of my clothes, and take them back to Cassie. "My room is down the hall if you ever need anything, okay?"

"I know where your room is," she lets out a small but weak laugh. I sigh and go sit next to her on the bed.

"Everything's gonna be okay. I know it doesn't seem like it now but it will be," she nods.

"I just wanna know why,"

"I know but you have to be okay with the fact that you may never know why. I know that hurts and it's gonna be a hard pill to swallow but you may have to accept that even if it hurts," she sighs and nods.

"I know," she says quietly.

"I'll leave you be for now. I'm here for you whenever you need anything,"
