Nyx, are you sure about this? Nyx could hear Nate's voice in her mind as Veronica began charging a beam of light in her palm. You know that your Gift won't stop her beams of light.
Yes. I'm sure, just stay back. Nyx thought back as she glared at Veronica with an even gaze. She was confident, of course, and while this girl could easily put her down with one well placed shot, all Nyx had to do was touch her and she was done.
Veronica quickly shifted her hand into a finger gun and pointed it at Nyx as she held one eye shut. After a moment, a pin straight beam shot from her fingers and Nyx dived out of the way before dashing forward. Once she got close to Veronica, she spun her body to send a roundhouse into her. Veronica quickly ducked under Nyx's leg before sending an uppercut into the bottom of her chin, causing Nyx to fall back onto her backside. Nate took a step forward before remembering what Nyx had said, he didn't want to risk distracting her, and Veronica taking advantage.
Veronica stood over Nyx as she rubbed her jaw, ensuring that nothing was broken. "This is Infinity? Seems like you've been oversold." She taunted before aiming at Nyx's face as a growl of anger left her lips. Nyx quickly kicked her foot into the side of Veronica's leg, causing her to stumble as she fired the beam of light. It just barely missed Nyx, but managed to singe a small bit of her hair. Nyx quickly got to her feet and lunged at Veronica, Nyx reached up and gripped Veronica's hair and pulled her head down into her own knee as Nyx brought it up swiftly. She then gripped Veronica's arms as she reared back in pain. Nyx then swung her around before throwing her to the side. Veronica grunted in pain as she rolled across the ground before Nyx shifted to her in the blink of an eye with her leg raised, ready to stomp down onto her. Veronica rolled out of the way before Nyx's foot created a crater in the ground, Veronica used the momentum to bring herself back to her feet.
"You know I've done my research about you, right?" Veronica said as she wiped the blood from her nose. Nyx stood up straight to look at her with a look of hatred. "I know that you were temporarily killed by Z the Gifted killer, and I know it was Nate's fault." Veronica said slyly and Nyx's eyes became clouded in rage, while Nate's eyes widened in horror. As much as he tried to forget it...life just wouldn't let him forget it.
"It was not his fault, bitch. He had no way of knowing that Z was waiting. Don't even try to fuck with my head, because I have no reason to believe a single word out of your mouth." Nyx responded through her anger before she shot forward again. She swung her leg in front of her again before it collided with Veronica's arms that she brought up to protect herself. She was still sent flying to their right, Veronica acted with surprising resolve and reached her arms up as she flew through the air. She gripped a passing branch and swung around it a few times before flawlessly panting her feet on the branch from below, effectively holding herself upside down. She quickly charged a smaller beam and fired back towards Nyx, the angle forced both Nyx and Nate to dive out of the way to avoid being hit.
Nyx growled again before dashing forward towards Veronica as she hung on the tree branch. Veronica took another shot, causing Nyx to pivot her body at a moment's notice to avoid being hit. This caused her to lose a bit of her speed and she was thrown off balance. Veronica quickly sent another beam that just barely grazed the side of Nyx's waist. She winced slightly at the intense burning before finally reaching Veronica, who quickly released the branch and flipped herself upright before landing on the ground.
"I know you could've killed me already, if you really wanted to." Veronica taunted playfully as she dodged Nyx's swinging fist. "Any particular reason you're holding back?"
Nyx lowered her fist after missing her punch. "I don't want this to be over too fast. There's no fun in that." Nyx taunted back in a slightly unhinged tone before she heard Nate's voice in her head.
