I've been taking a step back for a while to gather thoughts and deal with life issues. I'm still here and won't go anywhere, but I might take a little longer between certain chapters now. I'm trying to manage a lot at once.

Severus threw the paper across the room with a loud yell. Several pictures exclaimed in shock as he started to pace. Albus glanced at the slightly wadded front page. Blood Status Test Approved For New Year at Hogwarts. Every student would be sent a potion that would tell what percentage of purity they were by a single hair. Even the staff would have to take the test. All muggleborns would have to undergo further testing to determined placements in the school.
He fought for a whole month to get that test removed and banned. He had Hermione and Draco as witnesses to say that blood status didn't matter any longer, but the Wizinagamot apparently didn't care. What did they want from the muggleborns? He was slightly worried about his child that would be born within the year. What would happen to him when he finally joined Hogwarts? He's half-blood himself, and Hermione's a muggleborn. Their child would most likely be cast aside for testing to determined "placement", even though he had the two brightest parents of the age.
"What are you going to do, Severus?" Albus asked, watching Severus pace very angrily.
"If I knew that I'd already have done it!" He shook his head, mostly at himself. He should have done better to prevent this.
He stopped at the paper and picked it back up. After smoothing it out as best he could, he looked at the front page. Kingsley and the Governors were standing outside one of the court rooms holding a formal looking parchment. The new law.
A new law has taken place in Magical Britain. Starting on September 1st, every student entering Hogwarts will have to show their blood purity status to Ministry officials before getting on the train to Hogwarts. Those that have less than three quarter blood purity will be separated from the others and will be further tested before they can start their regular classes.
"Its time for a new dawn," one Wizanagamot officiate stated after the new Law was approved.
Another called it 'uncalled for' before quickly leaving the Ministry without further comments.
The Blood Potion is a new development that has been very under wraps until the law was passed. The tester would pluck one single hair and drop it in the blood potion. Green for pure, Blue for half, and Red for muggleborn. As part of the public, the Ministry allowed myself to be tested as an example. I'm proud to say that I am officially Pure-Blood. Although I've been told I was only half-blood for most of my life.
It's unclear if those less than three quarter blood status would be refused at Hogwarts or if they would be placed in specialized classes since there is only three levels to the test potion. Although by the time the tests officially takes place, there might be more elegant tests.
Severus sighed once again as he turned to go sit back down to think. The door to his office opened without knocking. The only one who would do that was Hermione. She looked beyond angry. She stomped over to his desk and threw her own copy of the Prophet on the desk. "You saw it then?!" Her voice sounded as if she was accusing him.
He cocked an eyebrow slightly. "Yes, unfortunately," he tossed his own wrinkled copy next to hers. "Utterly repulsive."
Hermione crossed her arms and gritted her teeth. "How could Kingsley let this happen?"
"It's not up to Kingsley, Hermione. The Wizanagamot overrode his veto. The Governors were tied so it was left solely on the Wizanagamot's votes," Severus tried to explain. He knew Hermione would understand, but her rational thinking was angry at the moment.
She scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Our child is NOT going to be tested for his blood status. I refuse. I would rather teach him myself at home than let anyone perform a blood test on him."
"Fortunately, that won't happen for ten years, so hopefully things are gone by then." Severus rubbed his eyes. He didn't get a lot of sleep last night. He was reading up on different detentions that he could suggest to various teachers for Charlie Yowe's last two weeks of detention. They were running out of new method's to punish him with.
Hermione turned to him. "You didn't read the rest of the article, did you?"
Severus stared back at her, his heart starting to beat faster. She took his silence as a no and turned to the next page where the article continued. Severus picked it up delicately and started to read.
The new Law doesn't just affect current students. Every new child born in Magical Britain will have the blood test done to them starting next week. So, if you are pregnant, congratulations, you will be among the first to have their children marked ahead of time.
Severus stood up so suddenly that his vision blurred for a second. He staggered for a second before regaining his vision and going to Albus' portrait. "Albus, they'll want to test him at birth."
Albus didn't look worried. "All things come to the light eventually," he said evenly.
Hermione and Severus glanced at each other and she shrugged slightly. "Professor, you want them to test our child's blood?" Hermione asked.
The former man chuckled in his frame. "Think about it Miss Granger. When the Lioness shall lay down with the Snake the age of Purity will be over."
Severus narrowed his eyebrows "I'm the snake," he said softly. He turned to Hermione. "You're the Lioness and we've laid down together. We have a child to be born in just three months but no one other than a small handful of people know of our involvement."
Hermione's eyes widened. "We have to come clean."
Severus nodded. "Yes, however the Board already knows. They were tied on the blood test. They are the only outsiders that know right now. We will need to prepare as much as we can in case they try to remove me again. We should get started on the ceremony speech. Proofread the last of it and possibly make changes if needed."
They started to work in silence. Changing parts of the speech to fit the situation at hand. Severus was slightly worried about what would happen once they told the world of their child. Would they hate him and Hermione?
