The first time Powder met Caitlyn, she wasn't exactly fond of her.
Who's to say she can judge her for it? Maybe her first impression wasn't exactly one that would be deemed likable in the younger girl's book. It didn't take too long to know why.
It was on that same day of her first session wherein Caitlyn found out that their family had just recently moved from their hometown of seventeen years.
To be far away from home is one thing Caitlyn could sympathize with. The information given to her allowed a better understanding that calmed her nerves.
Vander, a big, muscular middle-aged man who happens to be Powder's parent had enlightened Caitlyn with his daughter's background making the woman feel immensely grateful making her a tad bit better about herself. And what a sweet guy this man was, bless his kind soul.
She would've hated it if she came across as unlikable by being too much. Caitlyn sometimes comes across as too determined when a student is stuck on something she wants them to understand. But it was always for the good intentions.
If she happened to be overbearing to Powder on her first session, Caitlyn knew she had to make up for it. Considering the teen hadn't been discreet in rolling her eyes and groaning from time to time when Caitlyn had urged her to read a software handbook while she explained the rules inside this center.
"We're still adjusting to the place. We've been here for what? I think around two months? We still have a lot of learnin' to do for sure." says Vander when he strikes up the conversation for the first time as Caitlyn listens with a smile, hands on her back while taking glances at the blue-haired teen leaning on the wall, crossing her arms with a scowl on her face.
Powder wasn't hiding that she would rather be anywhere else but this tutor center. A pang of guilt keeps Caitlyn extremely conscious.
Was her first day with her really that terrible..?
"I hope you are adjusting well then, sir. I'm assuming Piltover's University is where she enrolled for the first semester then?" she hides it with a smile, wanting to ask more for familiarity. Trying to ignore what she must've done wrong.
"Mhm. Got offered a scholarship, ain't that right, Powder?" The smile on the man's face beamed with pride as he turned his head to look at his daughter, making Powder force a smile that returned into a scowl once more. A chuckle escapes Vander's throat followed by a heartfelt sigh, "We knew it was too good to miss out on. Best thing that's ever happened in a while. Her sister's proud of her. All of us really. No regrets on moving."
Caitlyn sees the teen trying to hide a sweet smile the moment she tilts her head down, eyes trained on the tiled floor. She held her stare and couldn't help but feel in awe of the relationship between the two. It was nice to witness something she wished she had more.
Immediately, she has a feeling she's going to like Powder. Just as much as she likes all of her students this one is no exception. Suddenly feeling determined, she nods in agreement.
It wouldn't be too hard to warm up with her, right?
"I'll do everything I can to be an assistance for her then," she replies, watching the two leave and giving Caitlyn the urge to create her next session plan for the young teen next time.

And she stuck to her word when one week had passed.
Things between her student have definitely improved. Starting from small talk to eventually having fully fleshed out conversations lasting more than two minutes had set a foundation.
