AALIYAH

"We wish you a merry Christmas. We wish you a merry Christmas."

"We wish you a merry Christmas."

"And a happy new yeaaaaar!"

I slowly opened my eyes to find my mom, Alex, and Cam all standing in front of my bed with huge smiles on their faces.

"MERRY CHRISTMAS!" my mom yelled.

I groaned, pulling the cover over my head. Someone walked over and pulled them off my bed. "Time to get up sleepyheads." Cam stood there.

Lucas yawned from beside me and turned over. He looked at Cam then grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. "It's too early."

"I'm sorry. Why are you here again?" Cam dodged the pillow.

Lucas rolled his eyes. "I'm starting to regret it."

"Okay. Enough of this," my mom interrupted,
LET'S GO EVERYONE!" She started to walk out of the room and Alex followed. "Time to open presents!"

Cam laughed and then clapped his hands. "Get up. We're not waiting all day either so chop chop."

I silently screamed and then lay there for a minute. Lucas kissed me on my forehead and then I rolled out of bed.

Merry Christmas everyone!

So thrilled.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas. But when you wake me up at 8 in the morning all that love goes out the window.

"HURRY UP," Cam yelled from downstairs.

"WE'RE COMING!" I yelled back. It's like he has the patience of a two-year-old. It hadn't even been ten minutes yet.

Lucas and I made our way downstairs to sit on the couch after Cam so nicely reminded us we had to open presents.

"So..." my mom started with a huge smile on her face, "Who's going first?"

I looked under the tree and saw boxes for almost ten people. I turned to look at my mom. "Did you get gifts for everyone?"

"Of course I did," she answered.

"Of course she did," Cam repeated, "I'll go first then."

My mom clapped her hands and then reached under the tree and handed him his gift. "It's not much but I thought you would like them."

He examined the box and then unwrapped it. His eyes widened as he held up a brand-new pair of boxing gloves. "Mom."

She smiled as she fixed the blanket she had wrapped around her. He placed the box down and then pulled her in for a hug. "Thank you."

"You're next Aaliyah." She handed me a box that was perfectly wrapped. I unwrapped it and started for a moment.

She saw my reaction and started to panic. "Do you not like it? I knew I shouldn't have-"

I jumped up and went over to hug her. "I love it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!"

I took the brown fluffy bear out of the box and hugged it while everyone else opened their presents.

When I was seven I had this stuffed animal. I named him Fluffy. I know, so original. A couple of months later we had a small fire and he unfortunately didn't make it. I was so upset I didn't speak to anyone for three days.

Very dramatic. I eventually got over it and my mom tried buying me a new one often but it was never the same.

This one though. It was perfect. I had an emotional attachment to Fluffy. He helped me through a lot. So seeing this was like a blast from the past.
