Y/N woke up with a pounding headache. To her surprise she woke up on her own bed.

She turned to grab her phone and as her eyes adjusted to the bright light, she saw a missed call from Paige.

Clicking on the phone app, she checked her recents and saw that she was on a 10 minute phone call with Paige.

"Oh god did I say anything stupid?"

She decided to wait a while before calling Paige back. Heading to the bathroom, to get ready for class.

There was a meeting being held in the school court.

The players were confused as they didnt have anothed game in two whole months.

"Hello ladies. Thank you for coming on such short notice." Coach Marc greeted. "You guys will be having a game next week."

"Next week???!?"

"We're not prepared??"

"Calm down ladies, you'll have more than enough tine to prepare. But you'll have to prepare for your flight tomorrow."

"Flight?"

"What flight?"

"Oh did I not mention that the game is in America?"

Y/N heard everyone exclaiming in excitement but she had her priorities set.

She had to call Paige.

"pAIGEE" a very excited Y/N yelled into the phone.

"Yeah what?" Paige grumbled, irritated.

Something was wrong.

"What's wrong with you?" Y/N's excitement turned into frustration, "woke up on the wrong side of th—"

"Nothing that concerns you." She interrupted, "what did you want?"

"No." A now infuriated Y/N said, "you call me early in the morning all mysterious and shit and now I get this attitude? What the fuck is going on Paige?"

"You'd know whats going on if you werent going around getting drunk and actually answered my phone call" Paige muttered, but loud enough for Y/N to hear.

"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"

Paige audibly let out a huff, "seriously, Y/N? Can we not do this right now?" Paige's voice laced with desperation.

"Do what? Be excited that im finally coming to America next week??? We fucking hoped for this day to come."

There was a tense silence. "Yea well a lot can change—" Paige muttered, but immediately regretting it.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Y/N's voice hardened. A knot of unease tightened in her stomach.

"Look" Paige sighed, " just forget it."

"No Paige. I dont think I will." Y/N immediately shot back, "this trip—is a big deal to me Paige. We planned this Paige. You would pick me up. You would take me to youre favorite places. And now youre acting like its nothing?" She said, continously swallowing the lump that kept forming in her throat.

"Maybe because it is." Paige's voice laced with a strange underlying guilt. She just groaned, burying her face in her hands in regret. "I just dont know how to shut up do I?" She thought to herself.

Paige could hear Y/N's voice tremble as she let out an "excuse me?". Y/N took a deep breath, "this is a big deal to me, and if it doesnt matter to you—"

"I tore my fucking ACL Y/N... and the timing couldnt be fucking worse. But yeah, you coming here is a way bigger deal." Paige snickered.

"Oh my god Paige,, im so sorry—I didnt—"

"Didnt know what Y/N?" Paige cuts her off, leaving a bitter sting to Y/N's heart, "didn't know that I wouldnt be able to show you off to everyone? Didnt know I wouldnt be able to be the perfect host?"

Y/N's jaw clenched. "Thats not what I meant" Y/N muttered. "Im coming to see you Paige, not the other way around. And if youre so fucking miserable about your injury that you cant even be happy for us, then maybe—"

"Maybe its a bad idea" Paige sternly interrupted.

The line crackled with unspoken hurt.

Paige watched Y/N squeeze her eyes shut, though the tears still pricked her eyes.

This wasnt how this conversation was supposed to go.

"Is there something else going on Paige?" Y/N forced out, her voice low. "Something youre not telling me?"

Silence stretched between them, thick with tension.

"Maybe." Paige spoke, her voice barely a whisper. "Goodbye."

The line went dead.

Y/N stared at her phone, a whirlwind of emotions swirling inside her. Paige's abruptness stung, but Y/N understood.

On the opposite end, Paige clutched her phone, regret twisting in her gut. She longed to confide in Y/N, to find solace in her voice. But a stubborn part of her wanted to shut everyone out, including Y/N, the one person she craved the most.
