Hally's mouth fell open in complete disbelief.

Snape had gotten her a broomstick.

Not just any old broomstick at that— but one of the fastest broomsticks in the world.

It must have cost him a fortune along with the necklace. How could he afford all of this ?

There was clearly more to her potions professor than she had originally thought.

"Sir !' She exclaimed in shock while jumping to her feet. 'This is too much, however could I accept this ?"

"Nonsense Potter. It wasn't as much as you are probably thinking." He replied readily with a casual wave of his hand.

"I don't understand... why ?..."

Snape's jaw ticked as he rolled his eyes, "it is simply a gift since your old broomstick is no longer accessible for you. Do not read more into it than that." His monotone words immediately dismissed any potential argument she could make.

"Thank you so much sir." She smiled brightly at him as he nodded his head in acceptance of her gratitude before making his way back over to the couch.

He sat down in his previous spot and allowed Hally a moment to do the same. Although this time she tried her hardest to subtly sit closer to him than before.

Side eyeing her attempt at scooting closer to him Snape chose not to comment on that and instead broke the silence with a observation. "I'm also aware that you haven't any way into Hogsmeade to buy yourself another one, so I presumed that you would appreciate the favour."

Hally felt her heart leap into her throat. She could never manage to properly lie around him because he always seemed to be able to detect it. So, instead of trying she turned her head to the side to hide her nervousness and agreed with him before voicing her appreciation again.

She wanted desperately to touch him. To throw herself onto his lap and wrap her arms around his broad shoulders. Godric knows after the week she's had, she desperately needed it.

But instead she settled for sitting close to him. Discreetly allowing the side of her thigh to lay against his.

And he didn't stop her. Which in its own was a massive victory. Perhaps he could sense that she needed the physical contact.

Still even in his presence she couldn't help the questions that were bubbling up about her alleged godfather.

She wanted to know if he knew. She wouldn't be mad at him of course but she still was unsettled by the thought of him keeping the truth from her.

"Can I ask you something, sir ? Fair warning— it's not anything to do with the gifts." She explained.

Snape lifted a brow at her as he turned his head to face her once more. He appeared wary but also intrigued.
