His jeep raced through the highway, the engine and wind roared in his ears, drowning out all thoughts of Rajveer's Maasi. Thankfully.

His phone rang, he ignored it, thinking it was his dad, or bade papa, or even Nidhi, he couldn't deal with any of them right now. He just needed- he didn't know what he needed- so he just pressed on the gas pedal.

His phone rang again, he spared it an annoyed glance, but then a rare smile came on his lips.

"Hey, baby doll." He answered the call.

"How many times have I told you not to call me that, Shorva?" A girl's voice lightly teased.

He laughed. "I could say the same to you."

Instead of her usual reluctant agreement, there was a beat of silence, he could perfectly imagine her biting her bottom lip before asking the question he knew she called to ask-. "So I- saw your award ceremony..."

There it was. He sighed. "I don't want to talk about it."

"You don't have to, just- are you okay?"

"I'm fine, what's going to happen to me?"

Famous last words.

The truck came out of nowhere, headlights blaring, blinding him.

It wasn't his fault, he had the right of way, the truck cut him off, but given his track record of reckless driving, no one would believe him, and that's what made it the perfect plan.

The car spun out of control, wheels screeching, flipped backwards, he got thrown out onto the pavement, a rapidly growing pool of blood under his head.

The world was blurry, his vision was going black, he should be in pain but he felt... numb.

"Shaurya!? Shaurya!?"

Seeing double, he saw his phone lying cracked beside him. It's important. When she says his name, it's important.

He tried to answer, but no words came out.

His eyes closed, and he doesn't know why but the last thing he thought of was Rajveer's Maasi.

His Mom.
