Eight days have passed. I'll give it to my sister - there has been an increase in harder work. That being said, there is further a surplus of heightened tension between us who kow the truth.
Hunting parties are coming back less and less. It is a predicted 22 weeks until Praimfaya comes, yet the animals are starting to disappear from the woods. I would say that it is the Grounders having more successful hunts and thus not leaving many for us. Although they don't know of Praimfaya yet... so it cannot be that. On that note, we have been in contact with Niylah as she dries all of our meat. I love seeing her every couple of days - I know that Clarke does, too. But Niylah can only dry what we provide her and currently, it won't be enough. Yet our people are no strangers to rationing, and thus I think it might be alright. Our storage room for food and rainwater collection is growing at a steady rate. Above all of this, the craziest part of preparation has been Raven's instruction for my sister: 100 names, Raven had said. A list of 100 people who will be on the inside of this ship when the radiaiton comes. Currently, the list has not been written. My sister is avoiding it. I offered to help but she declined that as well. I do consider the task to be barbaric, however it is better than an 'every man for themselves' fight to the death as we burn in the black rain. A part of me agrees with Raven. The other, morally disciplined part, thinks that we have no right to take over the role of natural selection. I also argued that someone with more life experience - such as Abby or Kane - should make the list. Raven disagreed, concluding that they don't know the extent of the situation due to Kane remaining in Polis whilst Abby returned to Arkadia.
It is an early morning today - painfully so. I do not remember the last time I slept more than five hours. Yet we do what has to be done. Bellamy left even earlier to help move supplies. I'm currently getting changed. I opt for my long sleeve and thicker coat - leaving all weapons in my room aside from my father's blade and Zeida's dagger at my hip. I have no plans on exiting Arkadia today; they are simply precautionary. On my way through the halls, the speakers in the corner of the ceiling crackle to life. "We need some medical help at the front gate," Miller's voice hisses above. Alarms start blaring in time and the urgency in my jog increases. The noise pauses for a moment, allowing him to speak once more. "It looks like we've got some pretty sick people here."
I run to the front gate, pushing past the growing mass of nosy onlookers. As I glimpse strangers on the ground through legs, I start telling my people to get back to work. The five gaurds in the front seems entirely unecessary when I shove through and see who sits there. "Nyko?" I wonder curiously. He kneels, holding a small girl half in his arms as she lays across the ground. There are three figures behind them, and two more at their side on their knees.
"Please," Nyko begs me. "They need Skaikru medicine." My hand places on the barrel of Miller's gun before I bring my sleeve to my face. Upon approaching, one of the woman turns her face up at me.
"Luna?" I see no horses. No land vehicle. Floukru does not own either. How did they make it here?
"Please don't turn us away," Luna starts to beg but she's interrupted by a cough. "Because of what I did to you." The thought of doing that makes me feel nauseous. To turn these people away? As I kneel by Luna and the girl Nyko holds, I inspect their conditions. Some continue to have momentary coughing fits. All of them - excluding Nyko - have irritated skin. Large welts, multiple blisters. Redness. Their clothes are stained with blood in unusual places.
"We lost more than forty on the way," Nyko explains. He isn't as sick; he must have found them on their way here. I don't quesiton it. I should be grateful he was able to help Floukru find the way to us. Their journey would have been long and brutal coming from that peninsula near the sea.
