Reply 1997 was Eunji's first acting role in a drama. In this one she plays a role of a highschool student: Sung Shiwon, an obsessive fangirl of Kpop sensation: H.O.T, particularly Tony Ahn. Her obsessive tendencies leads into conflict with her parents and her childhood friend Yoon Yonjae who's more focused on academics than meaningless leisure. 
With the setting of the drama being located in Busan, naturally all the actors were either born in Busan or around there including Eunji herself. She used her natural tomboy charms into the story often assaulting her best friend.
Eventually friendship begins to turn romantic and the two teens struggles to come to terms with their own feelings. It all comes to a head when he snaps at her at the karaoke just before their graduation. Out of frustration and fear of being possibly friend zoned and to prevent conflict with his older brother who also has feelings for Shiwon, he leaves Busan to Seoul to become a lawyer. 
Time jumps a few years til where he reunites with Shiwon again. They rekindle their friendship and now as adults they confess to one another leading to the two childhood friends as a happy couple.
