the curtis house was buzzing with the usual laughter and chatter of the gang. sabrina was back in the fold, surrounded by familiar faces and the warm sense of belonging she had missed so much while she was in kentucky.

the day had been filled with catching up, sharing stories, and reliving memories that seemed like they had happened a lifetime ago.

evie was sitting on the couch, chatting animatedly with two-bit and steve, while ponyboy and johnny were engrossed in a conversation about the latest book they were reading.

sodapop and darry were busy planning their next adventure, something that would inevitably involve some risk and a lot of fun.

sabrina looked around the room, feeling a deep sense of contentment. she had missed this – the camaraderie, the sense of family. but as her eyes scanned the room, they landed on dallas.

he was sitting in a corner, nursing a beer, his expression distant and brooding.

there was a shadow in his eyes that she hadn’t seen before, a heaviness that seemed out of place amidst the light-hearted banter of their friends.

her heart ached at the sight. despite everything, despite her attempts to move on, she realized that her feelings for dallas hadn’t changed.

she still cared about him deeply, perhaps more than she had ever admitted to herself. seeing him like this, so obviously troubled, stirred something inside her.

after a while, she decided to take a break from the lively conversation and headed to the kitchen to get some water.

the kitchen was quiet, a stark contrast to the bustling living room. she filled a glass and took a sip, enjoying the brief moment of solitude.

just then, she heard footsteps behind her. she turned to see dallas entering the kitchen.

he moved to the fridge and grabbed another beer, his movements deliberate and heavy. sabrina watched him, her concern growing.

“hey, dallas,” she said softly, trying to gauge his mood. he glanced at her, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes. “hey, sabrina,” he replied, his voice flat. she took a deep breath, deciding to dive in. “you seem a bit off tonight. everything okay?”

dallas opened his beer and took a long swig before answering. “yeah, just got a lot on my mind.” sabrina nodded, stepping a bit closer.

“want to talk about it?” he looked at her for a long moment, as if weighing his options. finally, he sighed and leaned against the counter.

“it’s sylvia. we had a fight. she... she mentioned another guy’s name while we were together. it just... it messed me up, you know?” sabrina’s heart ached for him.

she knew how much he cared about sylvia, despite their tumultuous relationship. “i’m sorry, dallas. that must have hurt.”

dallas shrugged, trying to play it off, but she could see the pain in his eyes. “it’s whatever. just makes you wonder if you’re ever enough, you know?”
