"What do we do?" Reggie began to panic as he felt the girl in his arms go limp.
"What is there to do?" Alex exclaimed. "I-I mean, Thena was the one who knew about these things."
"She's gotta be alive, right?" Reggie sniffled. "I mean, she's still here."
"She was already dead, Reg." Luke reminded the boy. "M-maybe she just fainted. You know from being exhausted from all the traveling. She did say she was having a hard time on her own; maybe it took a lot out of her."
"Thena, you gotta be okay. I just got you; I can't lose you already." Reggie muttered, holding the girl closer to his chest.
"It's not too late to go back to them."
Athena's eyes snapped open at the sound of the voice, causing her to look around confused, noticing she was in a field of flowers.
"Who said that?" Athena called out, standing up from the ground.
"I did," the voice said from behind the girl, causing her to quickly turn around.
Athena's breath got stuck in her throat as she looked at the woman standing in front of her.
"Mom." Athena choked out.
"Hey, sweetheart." Sammi Michaels smiled, holding her arms open, causing Athena to rush into them.
Athena closed her eyes as she held onto her mom for dear life, scared she would lose her again.
"I missed you so much, mom."
"I missed you too, kid." Sammi said, pulling away from the hug as she glanced down at her daughter's face. "But this isn't where you belong."
"What do you mean? You're here, and I want to be with you." Athena cried.
"And I would want nothing more than that, but you still have people who need you in the world." Sammi informed the girl.
"Well, can you come with me? It's been a long year without you." Athena asked.
"I've already crossed over, and I'm needed here now." Sammi shook her head.
"Will I ever see you again?"
"Of course, I'll be here waiting for your return." Sammi smiled as she tucked the girl's hair behind her ear. "But for now, this is goodbye."
Athena's eyes shoot open as she gasps for air, causing the boys to let out sighs of relief.
"Oh, thank you." Alex breathed out.
"Never do that again." Luke ordered, pointing at the girl, causing her to nod her head. "I'm glad you're okay."
