Despite its soft and cuddly appearance, Bewear is an absolute force of nature both in the anime and the games.

Having used one before in the Alola games, I can say that this Webkinz looking bear is incredibly strong, albeit not totally unbeatable.

Starting off with Bewear's design, I absolutely love this pokémon.

It's just so cute and like I previously mentioned, it reminds me of a Webkinz, which were a huge part of my childhood.

Bewear is just so huggable, which is problematic because according to several of its pokédex entries, this pokémon can literally break your spine if it hugs you due to how strong it is.

On to base stats, Bewear has 125 attack, 80 defense, 55 special attack, 60 special defense, and 60 speed.

Despite having decent defense (which is greatly improved by a certain ability that I'll go over in a bit), Bewear's biggest weakness is that poor special defense and speed, the latter of which is a fairly common problem with Alolan pokémon.

That said though, this pokémon hits super hard with that massive 125 base attack, and can tank plenty of physical attacks thanks to it having 120 base HP to go along with a nice defense stat.

Besides a multitude of strong normal and fighting physical attacks, Bewear gets some coverage moves like Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, Shadow Claw, Zen Headbutt, Iron Head, and Darkest Lariat.

For abilities, the two Bewear can have normally are Fluffy and Klutz, one being really good and the other is one of the worst pokémon abilities of all time in my opinion.

Starting off with the actually useful one, we have Fluffy.

This ability halves the damage from attacks that make physical contact with the downside of doubling the damage taken from fire type moves.

As you can imagine, Fluffy turns Bewear into a defensive powerhouse that can withstand almost any physical attack, even from types that it's weak to.

Of course with such an amazing ability, there must be something negative to balance it out, and that of course is how any strong fire move absolutely obliterates poor Bewear.

If you can play around Fluffy's imposed fire weakness though, this ability is honestly one of my favorites and should always be the one you have on your Bewear.

The Alolan Persian I used the last time I played Pokémon Sun had Fluffy, which only added to my already existing love for the ability.

Ok, now for the absolutely awful ability Bewear gets, which is called Klutz.

Klutz prevents effects of whatever item Bewear is holding except for things like the EXP. Share, Amulet Coin, Lucky Egg, Soothe Bell, etc.

No power boosts from items like the Silk Scarf or the Black Belt,

HP restoring berries do not work.

Basically any item you'd want to use in battle is useless because of Klutz.

Why does this ability exist?!

The only use I can see for this ability is a really cheesy competitive strategy of somehow giving Klutz to your opponent's pokémon, but even then why would you do that instead of doing literally anything else?

I'm sure I'll get a comment informing me of an extremely situational use for this ability, but let's be honest, Klutz sucks and should never be used over Fluffy.

Bewear's hidden ability is much more useful than Klutz (though of course that is not saying much), but is still pretty situational.

Unnerve is Bewear's hidden ability, which keeps the opposing pokémon from consuming their held berry.

This ability has more use in competitive than playing through the game normally since it's pretty rare for in game trainers to put held berries on their pokémon, but even then you'd probably wanna go with Fluffy for Bewear's ability since the defensive power it offers is much appreciated and you must take into consideration how not every held item your opponent can use on their pokémon is a berry, which really reduces Unnerve's usefulness in battle.

Basically : Use Fluffy, it's the best ability Bewear can have by far, although Unnerve does have some use unlike Klutz.

Earlier on, I said Bewear isn't just a force of nature in the games, but in the anime as well.

Admittedly I didn't watch too much of the Sun and Moon anime, but I certainly know how powerful the Bewear that befriended Team Rocket was in it.

Seriously, look up clips on YouTube to see just how insane this Bewear was in terms of overpoweredness.

The fight between it and Pheromosa was like something out of Dragon Ball Z, and I highly recommend watching it.

Back to the games though, I will also say that Lusamine's Bewear was super annoying to take out if you didn't have a fire move to use since if you couldn't tell, her Bewear does indeed have Fluffy.

That just goes to show how great that ability is.

Out of all the Alolan pokémon, Bewear is one I have a major fondness for both because how incredible it is in the gen 7 games and the Alola anime, but also because it resembles the Webkinz plushies I loved collecting when I was younger, and I'd definitely give this pink and black bear a great big hug if doing so wouldn't seriously hurt me.

Sorry Bewear, but I'd prefer my spine not be broken, but I still like you a lot.
