Saedii took an unsteady step back. At her sides, her hands shook as she watched Wrecker size her up.
"All Jedi are to be terminated in accordance with Order 66," Wrecker said, lifting his blaster. Unlike back on Ord Mantell, Saedii knew this time, it would not be set to stun. And she had no lightsabers to defend herself.
"Sadeii!" Omega cried.
"Get Tech conscious. Get him working on that pod." Saedii took another step, inching closer to the door. Her voice shook as she added, "I'll keep Wrecker busy."
"Traitor." Wrecker aimed his blaster at her.
She ran at the same time he pulled the trigger.
Heat blasted the wall behind her, sending sparks and tiny bits of scrap metal flying as the blaster fire tore a hole in the wall. Omega was screaming as Saedii slipped into the hall, and took a sharp left.
Saedii didn't know where she was going. All she knew was that she needed to go. To stay far enough ahead of Wrecker that he couldn't hurt her, but not too far that he lost interest and returned to the medical bay.
If he destroyed that pod, then the rest of the Bad Batch wouldn't get another chance to remove their chips. And if he destroyed it with Crosshair inside, while he was still in the midst of his procedure...Saedii might not like the Clone, but she couldn't let him die.
Stomping footsteps told her that Wrecker was following. His armored shoes rang against the metal floor as he charged after her.
Saedii reached the end of the hall, ducking as Wrecker fired.
His shots only just missed, coming close enough that she could feel the heat of the blaster on her skin. Scrambling on her hands and knees, she shoved back to her feet and ran left.
The floor seemed to bank beneath her as she ran. Flashes of a similar sprint through the forests of Corilynth pressed heavy on her mind: vibrant flashes of green plants, red and purple splashes of blood, dying screams of wounded men, the harsh breaths of Master Plo as he urged her to run, faster! Saedii stumbled as she remembered, with blistering clarity, what it felt like to feel her skin and muscle split.
Focus, Master Plo's voice whispered in her mind. Calm yourself. Trust your instincts.
She let out a shuddering breath, shoving the images of Corilynth out of her mind. She needed to think. She knew these cruisers. Had lived on one for the past year. If she could just think of a place to lead him, a place where she could get the upper hand...
Behind her, Wrecker roared as he followed her down the hall. He fired at her retreating back, blaster fire hitting the wall behind her.
Blasters. That was it.
If she could reach the armory, if by some miracle, the Empire hadn't cleared it out, then she could use a blaster to stun Wrecker. Just long enough to keep him down until Hunter and the others could get his chip out.
Saedii looked for the east corridor – the one that would lead towards the armory. In the dark, she could only just make out the structure of the hall. The way it wound forward in a loop.
In her mind, she could see the map. See the way the cruiser was structured. But in the dark, everything looked the same. She couldn't make out any defining features. Couldn't tell where she was –
A blaster shot skimmed across her back, flaring bright hot against the scar there. Saedii screamed and dropped to her knees, reaching a hand around. It came back dark with blood. Her blood.
