The embrace between Liam and Alex lasted mere moments before Alex's strength gave out. He sagged against Liam, his eyes rolling back as the weight of his worry, sorrow, and stress overwhelmed him. Panic flashed across Liam's face as he held his mate close, lowering him gently to the floor.

"Alex!" Liam's voice cracked with fear, the sight of his unconscious mate tearing at his heart. He scooped Alex up in his arms, ignoring the pain that flared from his still-healing wound.

"Call a doctor!" Liam barked at their stunned parents. "Now!"

Robert Daxton sprang into action, dialing their family physician. Within the hour, the best doctors and nurses were assembled at the St. Claire estate, setting up a makeshift clinic in Alex's room.

Liam refused to leave Alex's side, even as a nurse insisted on examining his injuries. "I'm not leaving him," he growled, his voice leaving no room for argument. The medical staff worked around him, treating his wound while he kept a vigilant watch over Alex.

The room was filled with a tense silence, punctuated only by the steady beeping of the medical equipment monitoring Alex's condition. Liam held Alex's hand, his eyes never leaving his mate's face. The weight of the past three years pressed heavily on him, but his resolve to stay by Alex's side was unshakeable.

Their parents watched from the doorway, a mixture of concern and frustration on their faces. Veronica stood beside Eleanor, looking uncomfortable and out of place. She had been a pawn in their parents' plans, and now, those plans seemed to be unraveling.

"Maybe we should give them some space," Veronica suggested softly, sensing the depth of Liam and Alex's bond.

Eleanor frowned but nodded. "Yes, let's give them some time."

As the parents left the room, Veronica lingered for a moment, watching Liam's unwavering devotion. She realized that there was no place for her in this scenario. She turned and left, feeling a pang of sympathy for Alex and a sense of relief that she wouldn't be forced into a loveless marriage.

The hours dragged on, but Liam remained steadfast. He held Alex's hand, his fingers brushing over the back of his mate's knuckles as if the simple contact could convey all the words he couldn't speak. He thought about the three years they had spent apart, the trials they had both endured, and the love that had brought them back together.

As dawn broke, Alex stirred, his eyelids fluttering open. The first thing he saw was Liam's face, filled with concern and love. "Liam..." he whispered, his voice weak.

Liam's heart soared at the sound of Alex's voice. "I'm here, Alex. I'm not going anywhere."

Tears welled up in Alex's eyes. "I thought... I thought you had left me."

"Never," Liam said fiercely. "I was delayed, but I came back as soon as I could. I would never leave you."

Alex's eyes filled with relief and gratitude. He squeezed Liam's hand, drawing strength from his presence. "I missed you so much."

"I missed you too, Alex," Liam whispered, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to his mate's forehead. "We'll never be apart again."

The doctors came in to check on Alex, and Liam reluctantly let them do their work. He watched as they assessed Alex's condition, nodding in approval when they confirmed that Alex's collapse had been due to extreme stress and emotional exhaustion but that he would recover with rest and care.

As Alex regained his strength, Liam stayed close, only allowing the medical staff to treat him when Alex was sleeping. His wound was healing, though slowly, and the doctors advised rest. But Liam's focus remained on Alex.

Their parents, despite their best efforts, found themselves unable to drive a wedge between the two. Every attempt to introduce Veronica or suggest alternatives was met with cold indifference or outright hostility from Alex, who had regained his determination and confidence with Liam's return.

One evening, as Alex lay resting, Liam's father approached him. "Liam, we need to talk about your future. About the dangers you've brought upon yourself."

Liam looked up, his eyes hard. "What do you mean?"

"The wound," Robert said, gesturing to Liam's bandaged side. "We assumed it was from business rivals, but the severity... What have you gotten yourself into?"

Liam sighed, realizing that the time for secrets was over. "I've built connections, alliances, and power beyond the business world. I've done it to protect Alex and myself. To ensure no one can ever tear us apart again."

Robert's eyes widened with realization. "The rumors of a new underworld king... That's you."

Liam nodded. "It is. And it's not something I took on lightly. Every move I made was to secure our future."

Robert was silent for a moment, processing this revelation. "Does Alex know?"

"Not yet," Liam admitted. "But he will. When the time is right."

"You've taken a dangerous path," Robert warned. "But I see why you did it. I just hope it was worth it."

"It will be," Liam said firmly. "I won't let anyone come between us again."

In the days that followed, Alex slowly recovered, his strength returning with Liam by his side. The bond between them grew stronger, fortified by the trials they had faced. And though their parents continued to plot and scheme, they knew that the love and determination of Liam and Alex were forces they could not easily overcome.

As Alex regained his full strength, he and Liam began to make plans for their future. They knew there would be challenges ahead, but they were ready to face them together, their bond unbreakable, their love eternal.
