"I am going to admit, I am impressed... Marinette..."
This is the first time... first time that Adrien has called her by her name. He had always called her my lady till now and hearing her name rolling off his tongue so sweetly made her pulse quicken, not because she was happy but because this meant that he is dropping his mask in front of her and she don't know how to handle it.
"And I am also going to admit..." Adrien continued speaking "that you have not misunderstood. If I understand correctly, you know of my hatred towards my father and everything that I am doing to bring him down"
Marinette knew she needed to stay strong as she was now walking on thin ice, Adrien now knows she knew about his plans and he is now on high alert. Why did she open her mouth in the first place!? This was never part of her plan but now that she has dived into it, she needs to continue "By everything you mean getting the people who support your father on your side or else destroying them?"
"Yes, exactly that" Adrien replied without a single hesitation, admitting that he was going to hurt and destroy people if he needed to.
Marinette suddenly started having a sudden sense of deja vu seeing Adrien's unmasked true self, the true self which he had shown her when she was imprisoned and he...he...
Marinette gripped her dress tightly in a fist as her head started spinning as those memories started playing inside her head.
She watched his gaze flipping to the tight grip and then back to her eyes.
He noticed it...
She took a deep breath and letting go of her dress she asked "and which one of those lists includes my family?"
Taking another glance at the crippled part of the dress that she made, Adrien leaned back into his seat, straightened his back, and intertwined his both hands fingers.
"None..." Adrien replied which made Marinette stare at him in confusion "Your father, Duke Dupain is neutral. He does not take sides and gets involved in politics and I was hoping that he would continue to stay neutral in the future even though I am engaged to his daughter"
"Knowing my father... he will continue to stay neutral and away from your feud... even if we break off our engagement today" Marinette stated.
"And speaking of that..." Adrien said "Maybe now I know the reason why you want to break it off. It's either because you believe that this engagement was forced upon me by my father so I hate it or... maybe because you believe that I will be a threat to your family"
"You can never be a threat to my family..." Marinette spat out, she got angry when he mentioned her family like that, remembering how they lost everything because of him when they were trying to save her in her previous life "My father stands with equal power to the imperial family but if we join external forces too, then you know that no one will choose you over my father. Between you and his majesty, they might choose you but not over my father"
"Okay... easy there, Marinette" Adrien said in an attempt to calm her "I wasn't threatening your family, I was just guessing the reasons why you would have the sudden change of heart and would want to break up with me when you love me"
Marinette calmed down and now stared at him on hearing that. She needs to say it.
"I don't..." she whispered.
