Furious......

"Get out...." she stood, face like thunder, pointing at the door.

"Please Lissy... let me explain..." he begged without a second thought. "I had my reasons... none of them bad, I promise." he held out his hands in front of him in surrender.

"I DONT want to hear it Loki.  There's nothing you can say that will make it ok.  I thought you wanted to change but I see it - I - was just another game to you. A game I won't play.  I went through HELL for, and because of, you.  Not again. Now. Get out of my home."  She looked away, partly in anger and partly so he wouldn't see her tears.  Of disappointment.

"Please Lissy..."

"STOP calling me that.  You have no right." She held the door, looking at the opening rather than him.  He sighed, one thing Loki knew was that this was not going to get any better if he hung around arguing.  He'd learned the hard way, spending too many hours doing just that with his family.

"Ok. You win. I'll go.  Just promise me one thing?  Please?" he stopped and looked down at her, willing her to look at him.

"What." her voice was flat, her eyes less so.  When she eventually did look at him, he could see the hurt, the anger, the disappointment and yes, the feelings she had so long denied.

"Promise me that one day, you'll give me another chance?  Not now, I know that, but one day.  When you see for yourself that this was never about lying to you. It was..." he sighed and put a hand on her arm.

"Get out." Was all she said. Now she stopped pretending. The tears fell as she added "Please. I can't do this. Please just go."

He walked out into the sunshine, instantly assuming the physical persona of Jack, simply to avoid the scrutiny of the passers by.  He turned and looked back, she still hadn't closed the door. She stood on the threshold, just watching him.  Her eyes told him everything he didn't want to know.

"For what it's worth Clarissa" he paused, "I'm truly sorry."

"I know you think you are Loki, but really? Do you ever feel anything? For anyone?" she closed the door quietly, leaving him standing in the street.  As she did so, she sank to the floor and covered her face with her hands.  This had gone so horribly wrong.

As she sat there, bereft of any emotion, her mind wrung out, she became aware of a figure in the corner of the hallway.  For a moment she wanted to scream, but then, as she watched her walk towards her, she suddenly felt no fear.

"Don't worry Clarissa" the woman said softly, her hands moving in graceful sweeps, a delicate red glow swirling around her fingertips as she talked, "You have nothing to fear from me, in fact, I can help you get what you want."

"You can?" Lissy found she couldn't look away. "Who ARE you?"

"Me? Oh I'm just a friend.  One who's prepared to help you in return for a little favour.... you see, I lost my children and SHIELD were the ones who took them.  Fancy helping me get them back?"

Loki stood looking at the front door, unaware of the drama unfolding behind it. All he could see was his distraught face reflected in the paintwork. This had gone so horribly wrong.

Did he ever feel anything?  As he walked away, fists clenched in his pockets, he knew the answer to that.

The office door almost slammed off it's hinges and the handle embedded itself in the wall.  Fury looked up and was instantly on his feet, hands up defensively.  He knew what was coming and he was, to be honest, slightly regretting his actions.

"Whoa there... calm down.  Before YOU do anything I might regret, let me explain..."

"EXPLAIN?  EXPLAIN?" Loki roared and stalked menacingly across to the now hurriedly backing away SHIELD Director . "What could you have to say that could POSSIBLY interest me at this point. All you need to do is make your peace with whatever God...." he raised his daggers, and Fury winced, closing his one good eye as he was pinned to the bookcase. This was NOT how it was supposed to have gone.
