This chapter was originally going to be a top 10, but upon going over all the gym leaders, I realized that a top 15 was in order.
Gym leaders have been a constant staple of the franchise since the very beginning (except for gen 7 and Legends Arceus but those are exceptions to the usual Pokémon game formula), so I figured it was time to go over my favorites among the bunch.
My reasons for liking these gym leaders isn't exclusive to just the games, as their depictions in the anime can also play a big part as to why I like them.
Like always with these kind of lists, feel free to disagree with me as long as you do so civilly, and please let me know who your favorite gym leaders are if you want.
With all that out of the way, let the countdown begin!
#15 - Ramos (Generation 6)
Ramos is the grass type gym leader from the Kalos region, and I'll be honest, he's only on this list for a single reason....his voice in the dub.
The English dub of the X and Y anime gave Ramos a southern accent, which I can't help but smile at whenever he speaks.
He speaks like an old man by using words like whippersnappers, and with the accent he has, I find really funny.
Plus he uses a Gogoat, which is one of my favorite gen 6 pokémon design wise.
The anime tends to give certain gym leaders a lot more personality than they had in the games, and Ramos is no exception.
He's this low on the list because his actual gym battle is incredibly forgettable, and I just happen to like the other gym leaders on this list more.
If you haven't watched the dub of X and Y, I highly recommend it, and maybe you'll end up liking this old timer as much as I do.
Alright, on to the next one!
#14 - Bugsy (Generation 2)
Wow, who would have guessed that Beedrill would put a bug type gym leader on the list?
All joking aside, Bugsy is a pretty cool gym leader.
In the anime, some of his dialogue was hilarious, plus he has one of the most powerful Metapod in the Pokémon world....which isn't saying much but it's still impressive.
This guy uses a Scyther, that alone warrants his placement on the list.
Bugsy is a self proclaimed bug type expert, and as a fellow lover of bug types, that immediately earns him some brownie points from me.
Unfortunately, he's this low on the list despite his anime depiction and bug expertise because his gym battle can be incredibly hard depending on your team because of that Scyther.
Like I briefly said in the Scizor chapter, giving the second gym leader in the game a Scyther was a very cruel thing to do, and I've lost to it many times in the past.
Oh well, I still like Bugsy a lot, so he gets a spot on this list unlike other gym leaders who have given me trouble.
Next!
#13 - Kofu (Generation 9)
I'll freely admit that I don't care for a lot of Scarlet and Violet's gym leaders.
Katy is fine, just doesn't have much character.
I actively hate Iono and Grusha for different reasons.
