Evelynn wasn't impressed. Not. One. Bit.

"You did not tell me I would be sorted into my house in front of everyone!" she shouted.

Remus didn't pay attention. He was in a foul mood ever since he got back from Dumbledore's office. He wouldn't tell her why he was so upset and since he wasn't willing to tell her what he knew, she was going to fill the time with her complaints. It was only an hour until he and the other staff would sit down for dinner. Then, the older returning students would be seated. After them, the first years would be brought in to be sorted and after—because of course the staff had to punish her with the worst embarrassment—Evelynn would be sat down as a new fifth year student and be sorted as well.

It was fucking stupid.

She threw her arms up in the arm and began talking louder. "Why couldn't I be sorted now, before dinner? For fucks sake, how am I not supposed to draw attention to myself when I'm being forced on stage?"

"Language," Remus replied shortly.

Evelynn scoffed and crossed her arms. "Geez, I'm not even worth full sentences now?"

"Here's a full sentence for you: Go to your room and stop pestering me."

"You're joking?" Evelynn threw her arms up. "You're not even listening to me! I don't have a room yet because I'm being forced to have my house sorted in front of everyone."

He didn't answer and Evelynn was becoming even more annoyed. She marched over to his desk and tried to see what was so important, but he quickly hid the papers and shooed her with his hands. He sat down at his desk and didn't even look at her. She was a ghost to him, and the worst part was that he wouldn't even tell her what it was that was important enough to keep him from listening to her rant.

Realizing she wasn't going to get any farther with Remus, she left his office and stalked down the hallways with Chaos. She tried to avoid as many of the packed hallways as possible until the crowds got too overwhelming. She tried looking for a place to retire to, but she was running out of luck, and soon it only got worse. As she strolled down a seemingly empty corridor, she saw ahead of her the very person she was meant not to interact with: Harry Potter.

She hadn't seen him before. Not in person. Never in person. But, there he was, walking in his famous little golden trio with Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. He looked happy. Happy enough.

That was good. Evelynn wanted him to be happy. Even if that meant she had to sacrifice her own.

As he came closer, she became panicky. She didn't want him near her, looking at her, nothing. He may not know who she was, but she knew enough to haunt her for decades.

Thinking irrationally, she dove into the boy's bathroom with Chaos in her arms. She didn't look to see if anyone preoccupied it. Instead, she pressed her ear against the door and carefully listened for footsteps—or rather, the lack of footsteps. She was completely focused on her task until a deep cough from behind pulled her from the door.

Her face flushed when she turned around and saw two boys watching her with humor and curiosity.

Chaos stirred in Evelynn's arms as she stared embarrassingly at the group of boys. Her cat sprung from her arms and ran forward, immediately checking out the new room she brought him to.

"Uh, sorry," she mumbled as she walked forward to retrieve him. She tried her best not to look at them.

The shorter boy—by an inch or two—began to chuckle as he breathed out a puff of smoke in her direction.

Evelynn rolled her eyes as she picked Chaos up. "Classy."

He raised his eyebrows. "Says the chick in the men's restroom."

"Huh. I thought the sign said boys, and I'm definitely not seeing any men in here." Evelynn sighed. This was the opposite of keeping distance from people. "Look, I'm sorry, okay? I just needed a place to hide, but I'll be on my way now."

"See you later, princess," the same boy shouted.

"Geez," his friend laughed.

Boys, Evelynn thought and rolled her eyes. She left the bathroom quickly and the next one she entered she made sure it was empty and for girls. She let Chaos explore the bathroom as much as he wanted while she tried to collect herself. She looked into one of the rusty mirrors and fixed herself as best as she could. She hated her robes—not that she was fashion inclined, but she liked clothes enough to know that what she was wearing now did not make her beautiful. While her breasts were small—and simply non-existent wearing the robe—her ass was her best feature and even that was hidden in the cloth. All she had to show was her face and hair, and while she normally never went to great lengths to look absolutely stunning, she felt she had to do so now that she was to be presented in front of such a large crowd. What was worse was the fact that her makeup was all packed away and there was no time for her to go and fetch them now.

"Impossible," she grumbled as she pulled her dark brown hair into a messy bun. "I'll never look ready to be sorted.

From somewhere in the room, a girl giggled.

Evelynn looked around, confused. She had checked every stall. No one was in here and no one had come in.

"Hello?" she called out.

Evelynn heard the giggle again and watched as a young ghost flew out from one of the stalls and over her head. Chaos, not having seen a ghost before, ran like hell over Evelynn. His black fur stood up and he started making sounds like a broken engine.

Evelynn laughed as she picked him up and tried to soothe him. "Poor baby," she teased.

"Hmph. I am not scary," the girl cried out. Her expression was sour as she floated near Evelynn.

"I'm sorry. He's never met a ghost before. I'm Evelynn."

The ghost rolled her eyes. "Myrtle." She looked Evelynn up and down. "New here?"

"Uh, yes. I just transferred. Today is my first day and—"

"The sorting hat will never fit on your head." She circled around Evelynn. "You're not going to be put in Ravenclaw. No one smart would be stupid enough to put their hair in a bun before being sorted."

Evelynn scowled and set Chaos down. "Geez, thanks for the help I guess."

"Hmph. Whatever. You know, you shouldn't come back here again," she said while Evelynn tried to comb her hair with her fingers. "No one visits me but Harry Potter. It's rude to make me think you're him when you're not."

Evelynn perked up. "Harry Potter comes here?"

For whatever reason, Myrtle didn't like Evelynn's reaction to hearing Harry Potter's name. She screamed loudly and swooshed in front of Evelynn.

"Stupid girl! How dare you know of my Harry," she cried before disappearing down one of the toilet's.

Evelynn glanced at herself, not satisfied but having run out of time, and left with Chaos. As they walked down the empty halls, she mumbled to her cat, "I am never using a public bathroom again. These students are crazy."
