Chapter Song: Not Strong Enough (Feat. Brent Smith)- Apocalyptica, Brent Smith

Monday- Afternoon

-Evangeline-

"Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit," I repeat as I press the elevator button to open the door, but to my disappointment, it won't open.

Damn you, Charlotte.

I take a deep breath, not wanting to turn around to look at the person behind me.

"It's not very polite to cuss in front of a Legal Proprietor."

It's also not polite to run in the halls after stealing someone's heels, but here I am, living and breathing. Is what I want to say, but I decide to leave his words in silence instead. Plus, he's only a partial legal proprietor. He doesn't fully own the company until his father steps down.

I pull my phone out for a distraction, and to answer messages since I'm officially on break.

"Are-"

"I forgive you, now leave me the fuck alone," I interrupt him. My newly cracked old phone starts vibrating with the bold black letters of the ridiculous nametag, and a picture of me and her hugging sideways with her three kids in front of us- I have set as the wallpaper call.

Mrs. Boss. My sister, Violet.

I sigh, slide the green button, and then put the phone to my ear. "Hey, Violet."

"What the dog biscuits, Evangeline! Why are you trending all over every platform of social media I look at?!!" She yells loud enough for me to bring the phone from my ear and hear her still yelling.

I rub the bridge of my nose, trying to prepare myself for the hell of yelling I'm about to get from my older sister.

"It wouldn't be the worst thing that's happened today," His voice sounds behind me.

"Hold on, Violet," I cover the microphone on the button of the phone and turn behind me, "Will you shut the fuck up? I'm in the middle of a phone call," I turn away from him, looking forward.

I uncover the microphone, "I'm back-"

"Who was that?!" She yells, interrupting me.

I stay silent, not knowing how to reply, "Evangeline, tell me it isn't who I think it is."

I sometimes hate Violet because she has a memory of a steel trap.

"What are you doing with him!"

I sigh, "It isn't my fault. Charlotte and I got into a chase because I stole her shoes. I ran to the elevator to have lunch with my boss, and now I'm stuck in here with him."

Violet scoffs over the phone, "Oh? So you didn't plan it?" She says with sarcasm dripping from her voice.

"Are you serious right now? Why the hell would I want to be stuck in the elevator with him? I honestly think August has something to do with the elevator not moving."

"Why do you think that?"

I sigh again, rolling my eyes at it, "I don't know. Maybe because the last thing I said to August when he tried to say I was staring at Mr. W's ass was that.." The words came out before I could stop them. My heart beats against my veins as my spine stiffens.

"Evangeline... please tell me you didn't just say you were staring at his ass while he's behind you."

I put my hand on my face, trying to hide the embarrassment that's rising on my face and from looking at his smug smile under his mask through the reflection of the elevator doors, "I did," I squeal out.
