His POV
The boy walked around the bed as though to have a clearer view of Matteo from the other side. "We knew what you have done. We knew you were on the run from your boss. We also knew it was entirely up to you. Traceigh Landauer would never penalize you for slaughtering his handy boy.
"However, he wouldn't lose what he deems his. Yet, he left you on the run for too long. That was the odd bit. Traceigh's temper is well known, it precedes his ruthlessness. Being lenient towards you, that was scary."
Stellan looked at Devyn from the corner of his eye, his grin widening when he found Devyn's eyes on him. "Well, it was at first. But the longer he dragged it out, the clearer it became that you're that pussy's rag rat. Giving you a vacation and joining you? He's never going to move away from you, Devyn.
"Not ever." Stellan walked to Devyn. He paused in front of Devyn, placing a finger under his chin before lifting it. "Not tonight either."
Devyn felt the back of his shirt stick to his skin with sweat. Where on earth was Ash? He had no idea where Devyn had gone to earlier, right? Had he gotten the message to... He felt anger heat up his body. Whether he had gotten the message or not, everyone knew Ash was dumb enough to stick around.
"You must be wondering about Matteo."
Devyn felt himself smirk. No matter how hard everyone tried, none could do it like his master. Ash could always read his companion's minds. There were whispers around that he was psychic, the drawback being his temper. A little reign on his temper, a little patience, a little self control and he would act perfectly according to what was on the next guy's mind.
A few seconds and a little reasoning and he would be the most unbreakable man to ever exist.
Unfortunately though, Ash Landauer acted on impulse and momentary thoughts rather than emotion and reason. And Devyn knew wherever he was... His heart slowed. Stellan was right, earlier.
Ash would be close to Devyn at whatever cost.
If so, why take out Matteo?
"Matteo will not like you going after Ash." Devyn voiced but the other boy only grimaced playfully.
"You still don't get it, kiddo. I'm doing him a favor. Having you around only brought him harm. Our main support in the filth... oh, you knew him as his father. And my brother, before you, my brother was Matteo's best man. And Nyx..."
Stellan paused, taking a deep breath. "I'll have to eliminate the root of all these. Matteo wouldn't let anyone take from him once and remain quiet. But this Ash... I'll make sure he's nothing but ash. After that, I'll scatter his ashes at my brother's grave."
The words sent chills up Devyn's spine. Not because Stellan was capable of it, but because Ash was most probably already blindly walking into the trap.

"Where's who?"
"Don't play dumb, pretty boy. You have Ferro's deal to protect." Ash warned through gritted teeth. He was in haste to find his boy. It had taken him that long to find him and had created such a mess in doing so.
In the kind of life he was in, Ash knew his spectators had seen enough of his play and were definitely sitting on their loins ready to strike as soon as he bat an eyelid. And if he had missed even one spectator, he knew they must have already started their move.
Finding Devyn Kaniesky before anyone else was therefore crucial. "Don't fuck with me." He hissed.
"My boys after him. I'm on my way to you." El replied. "Just when I thought you would be happy, you start freaking out the entire state."
"Grandfather's Den." Ash reached his car. "Take her away."
"Who?" El asked. "Devyn's sister? You want me to kidnap her? I can't do that to..."
"Please."
There was a moment of silence before Ash threw the phone to the backseat of his Rover. Hearing the pleading tone in his own voice scared him. Why was he pleading? He wouldn't plead for his own life if offered. Why then was he pleading for his servant's sister?
A few minutes from the Grandfather's Den, as he was nearing the high way that either led out the city or to Devyn's home, Ash heard his phone ring. He leaned over to collect it. Disappointed that it wasn't Devyn or El with news about Devyn, Ash rejected the call.
But Javier called back. "Where are you? Are you safe?"
"Are you my heavenly sent wife?" Ash sneered, a hint of irritation in his voice. "Is heavenly father calling me back home?"
"Ash be serious for once, fucksake." Javier seemed to stop himself before continuing. "Why did you take the gun with you? If you sense danger you should avoid it rather than arming..."
Ash felt his heart push for a way up his chest before he felt the vehicle jerk.
The road was suddenly too dark. No other vehicle seemed to be taking that route that night. A fact he hadn't noticed before. It must be a lonely road, probably similar to the route he hadn't chosen for his own life. Ash thought about the life he led, the people he had persecuted.
Well, they must have deserved it in a way. But those that persecuted him... those that forced him to personally kill and shed his own heart... Ash thought about the little joy he felt after meeting a naïve Devyn, who was a complete opposite character but a whole duplicate of Rhys.
The naïve kid always brought joy to his being, for Ash had thought that if life had been a little less harsh on him, if fate had given him one better card at the table of existence, he would have ended up with the character of Devyn Kaniesky.
But life wasn't that gentle, and fate wasn't that reasonable, and Ash was...
It was too dark.
Did really no car take that road? Did no one take the same route as him?
Ash felt his heart pound, but faintly, as his ears picked up some sounds of human activity.
But it was too loud. The sounds around him were too loud. And too bright.
