Hyun-su stared at you before answering with a slight pout, "I do hate it. It annoys me so much, but it's the only way I can survive. It's the only way I can be useful to help everyone, even if they ostracise me. But it's also the only way I can keep standing by your side. You've done so much for me. The least I could do is to
keep surviving for you."You frowned before looking down at his hand. "I'm sorry, Hyun-su. I hate the fact that I can't do anything more than just protecting you."
Hyun-su gently tilted your chin with his free hand to make you face him. A genuine, caring smile laid on his face as he looked into your eyes. "That's more than enough for me, Y/N. You're already doing the most compared to everyone else."
You couldn't help but return the smile. "Okay, Hyun-su."
"Let's go then," He said, exiting the room to grab your weapons.
You grabbed your weapon and followed Hyun-su as the both of you followed your usual routine. You went out through the emergency staircase located on the side of the building from the second floor. As usual, Hyun-su took the lead to detect monsters with his phone and earpiece while also shielding you.
You took the string from Hyun-su and helped him tie it around the metal fence on the staircase to keep track of your progress. He continued leading before stopping on the floor for today's run. You managed to clear half of the list in ten minutes since there were barely any monsters on the lower grounds.
However, now you were entering the higher floors, the dangerous territory. Hyun-su entered the seventh floor first, and you closed the door behind you. Hyun-su turned to you and passed you his spear before reaching into his bag for more string. He then began creating a sort of maze with some bells and balloons attached. Since the monsters usually aren't that smart, they'd just walk through the maze, setting off the bells attached on the strings, which would warn you and Hyun-su.
After he was done setting up the traps, you and Hyun-su split up to cover more apartments on the floor. You went into one of their apartments and grabbed what they needed, which was a comb. Seriously, a comb? Vanity is not that important in a life-or-death situation.
You sighed and turned to leave the apartment when suddenly, you heard the bells ringing and balloons popping. You froze in your spot and waited for a few seconds.
You heard a loud crash and immediately opened the door. You saw Hyun-su on the ground and that sprinting monster on the burning floor.
"Hyun-su!" You exclaimed.
Hearing your voice, the sprinting monster changed its target and moved towards you. Before you could literally blink, you were suddenly pushed onto the wall behind you.
The impact was so strong that you were instantly coughing up blood in the next second. Your head began hurting like hell and your vision turned blurry for a split second.
"Shit, Y/N!" Hyun-su shouted before he reached for his spear.
The sprinting monster ran at Hyun-su like a bull, knocking him over a couple of times since he wasn't going down in a single blow like you did. It seemed like Hyun-su was going to lose, but that was before you spotted the familiar sinister smile on his face. His eyes were now pitch-black as his monster side took over, now matching the strength of the sprinting monster with matching blows.
Hyun-su managed to punch the sprinting monster into the opposite wall, creating a hole from his strength. The monster slowed afterwards, but you could tell Hyun-su couldn't last long as well.
You clicked the button on your spear, grabbed your combat knife, and began to wait in silence for the right time. When the monster stopped right before you for a split second, you sliced one of its calves.
