"Welcome back to Chicago, Stefan.''

The Windy City. And also the city that each of the car's passengers has visited in their lifetime. A piece of their souls will forever be held within the walls of this city, whether by the magic flowing around them or by the memories. One would hope they could escape the past.

They stepped into the dark night lit by street lamps as Klaus turned to Stefan and said. ''Chicago was magical,'' his words were not just directed at the younger vampire as he offered his hand to the red-haired girl who looked at him with a knowing look as she sensed another witch nearby.

''Yeah, well, I'll take your word for it. Like I said, I don't remember most of it,'' Stefan said and went inside.

''Down to business, then?'' Klaus closed the door behind them and his gaze flicked to the blond-haired vampire.

''Why am I still with you? Or better said, why are we all still with you? We had our fun, your hybrids failed. I mean, don't you want to move on?'' At one specific fact they exchanged glances, they knew and said nothing. The red-haired girl glanced at the older vampire next to her, who just shook her head. She knew it wasn't the fact that she was alive, but that didn't mean it wasn't about her.

The immortal hybrid grinned at him. ''You and I have a deal, Katerina has kindly joined us, and as for the little witch?'' He glanced at her and walked around Stefan, but stopped close to him for a moment to finish his sentence, ''That's purely between us. Now we're going to visit the old witch,'' he raised an eyebrow and led the way. ''If anyone who can help us with our hybrid problem, it's her.''

Stefan frowned at his answer. ''But Adreanna might-''

His eyes widened dangerously. ''Little witch is too special to be used for such nonsense. Besides, why not employ another?'' He asked rhetorically, prompting Stefan to ask, which reason advised him not to.

Katherine might not have had the best romantic relationships because her luck was shit or she was on the run, but that didn't mean she hadn't fallen in love once or twice in her five hundred years, because she had. But even if she hadn't, she knew what it looked like to care for one another. And if the people around her weren't blind, the only ones who would deny it would be the ones who cared.

She herself felt care and protection over certain people during her lifetime, she never saw those people again because she chose to forget them, but sometimes...

The brown-haired vampire looked at the red-haired witch explaining something to the immortal hybrid, who watched and listened with interest as one corner of his mouth curled upwards.

Sometimes she stayed through the trouble and danger because she knew it was worth it. Her Sunshine was worth it.

''Looks familiar, doesn't it?'' Klaus grinned at his companions as they stepped into the sunlit bar.

''I can't believe this place is still here,'' Stefan looked around the room in amazement as hazy memories appeared before his eyes.

''You gotta be kidding me,'' a voice echoed and an older woman with short gray hair in a simple dress and a necklace around her neck walked into the bar. ''I remember you,'' she said, pointing at Stefan after rolling her eyes at the original hybrid trying to be funny.

''Yeah,'' Stefan gasped. ''You're Gloria,'' she nodded in agreement. ''Shouldn't you be-?

''Old and dead? Now, if I die, who's gonna run this place, huh?'' Gloria smirked at the clueless vampire before her.
