"Pedro, say it." she said, sitting up. "I'm tired of this treatment, what is going on?"

He sighs, also sitting up. He knew what he'd been doing to her, the way he'd been treating her the past weeks has been awful but he couldn't help it. He couldn't do it anymore, it was all too much.

And he thought best way to get it to all to hurt less was to get her to hate him.

"I want us to break up." he said quietly and she raised her eyebrows.

"What?" she asked, her mouth slightly agape.

"I want us to break up." he repeated but this time even more quietly. "I've been so busy with playing for Barcelona and all the matches, I just simply don't have time. And the fact that you're two thousand miles away almost all of the time doesn't help. I don't have the time for this right now, Lara, I simply don't. I need to focus on my career and myself."

"But you promised." she whispered, her eyes glassy.

"I know I did." he sighed, taking her hands into his. "And I'm sorry that I'm unable to keep it. You deserve someone who will treat you better, someone who actually has the time for you and isn't two thousand miles away. You deserve someone better than me."

"But we were dealing well with it." she said.

"For the most part." he said. "But you've seen the last few weeks. It's all too much for me, I just need time for myself right now. Right person, wrong time."

"Okay." she nodded, quickly wiping a tear that fell. "Okay, I understand." she looked into his eyes.

And he hated that. He hated just how understanding she was. She always tried to understand views or opinions different than her own. And he usually loved that about her, it was one of his favourite things, but right now her being angry at him would have made him feel at least a bit better about this; she'd say mean stuff to him and he wouldn't feel as bad for breaking up with her.

But the fact that she was taking it so well only made him feel worse for it all. Not just for the breaking up part, but also how patient and calm she'd been these past few weeks when he'd been treating her like shit.

"Be angry at me." he said, looking at her.

"I can't." she shook her head. "I can't be angry at you, I understand. Football is the only thing you've ever dreamed of and I understand your decision."

He sighed, resting his head in hands. He couldn't believe what he was doing.

He didn't know if it was the right thing to do but he needed to do this right now. He couldn't cope with this anymore.

"I'll always love you, Lari." he whispered.

He felt her arms around him as she kissed the top of his head. "I'll always love you, too, Pedro."

If him and Lara were meant to be, fate would bring them back together one day.
