You woke up with a pounding in your skull, a ringing in your ears, and you held your head as you got up, everything coming back in a rush. You ran up the stairs and checked every room, calling out for your daughter, but she was clearly long gone.
You couldn't fall apart.
Not right now and not when Yelena needed you.
You found Sherlock whining by the back door and you searched everywhere, but it had been wiped clean of any indication to where they might've gone. You didn't even bother to grab his leash, just grabbed a few things before you called him to follow you to the car and he hopped in without question, almost as if he knew what was going on.
And a part of you thought he might know more than you as he kept trying to climb into your lap as you drove, but you pushed him off until you noticed the red around his mouth.
"You bit them?" You asked out loud, your throat scratchy and dry, "You're such a good boy, Sherlock."
You were going well over the speed limit and got the attention of more than a few local cops, but then you called the tower to let them deal with everything. You gave them very few details, barely letting yourself process it all, and they knew you enough to surmise you were coming in fast with an emergency.
And avengers don't get speeding tickets.
"Goddammit! God fucking dammit!" You yelled, slamming your hands on the steering wheel when the traffic held you up, "Screw this."
You took to the shoulder and bolted down it, wary of any pedestrians, but not much else. You couldn't be bothered with how insane you looked or how the metal pendant around your neck was burning against your skin because you needed your daughter back and you needed her back now.
You parked like a maniac and the dog followed you out, thankfully, not being able to mention how you left your door open.
"Y/n, what's going on?" Sam greeted you in the lobby, taking in your distressed state, and then you grabbed his arms when he held his hands out, trying to stabilize yourself.
You weren't going to break down.
Not now, not while Yelena is in danger.
"I need-" You tried to breathe, tried to focus, but the drive had been long, and the panic was seeping into your pores, "Rogers."
"You got it," He whispered soothingly, looking around for the people at the desk before calling out, "Get the captain down here," But they weren't moving quick enough as they were more concerned with the crazy woman and her dog, not being able to recognize you right away, so he shouted, "Now!"
And that seemed to snap them into it, frantically calling Steve down to the lobby.
"Hey," Steve's voice was heard minutes later, and he came up behind Sam, not seeing you yet, "Someone said there was an emergency, Sam, what's-" He stopped himself when he spotted you, "Y/n, what happened?"
"Yelena," You mustered out, having a hard time keeping your eyes on the super soldier as your mind was still racing with trying to figure out who they were and where they could've gone, "They've got Yelena."
"Son of a bitch." Sam mumbled in realization and Steve pursed his lips, going into full captain mode when he asked,
"Who?" He grabbed your shoulders, trying to get you to steady yourself, and look at him, "Y/n, who took Yelena?"
"I – I don't know," You told him truthfully, trying to think back before they knocked you out cold, "Paper and pen."
Sam didn't need to be told twice while Steve looked a bit lost and he jogged up to the desk, retrieving the items you needed. He came back and after you took it gratefully, you walked over to a couch and sat down, sketching their faces. It was a good thing you weren't shit at drawing because this was probably the only lead you had. Sherlock sat at your feet, resting his head on your knee both protectively and comfortingly.
"There were two – no, more than two," You thought out loud while you drew the first guy, "Two at the door, seemingly unarmed," You finished off some details as Steve called SHIELD in on this and Sam listened to you, "But they were just the diversion," You continued, "They were there for – fuck," You cringed at the thought and Sam put a hand on your shoulder, "They were there for Yelena and I hesitated when she called for me, they were already upstairs before the two came through the front door, they must've been lying in wait," You were thinking faster than the words were coming out, "Sherlock bit him, the blood on his mouth will need to be tested - dammit we were out of her favorite Ben and Jerry's so we went to the shop, took the dog with us, and that's when they must've gotten inside."
"Okay, okay." He soothed and you handed him the pad of paper."I should've checked the house – dammit!" You shouted, anger building up inside you, "If I hadn't-"
"Stop it," Sam told you firmly, but still gentle, "Don't go there."
Steve came over just as you sent him a nod, stowing your crap so you could do this right and bring your baby home safely. You needed to be in this if there was a chance of that and you weren't going to stack up more regrets by dwelling on the ones you already have.
"SHIELD is going to comb the place," He took the sketches from Sam, "We'll run these," He gestured to them and you shook your head, "And we'll see what we can find."
"What is it?" Sam asked when you gritted your teeth.
"They're not going to be in the system," You shook your head again, throwing a hand up and pointing towards the roof, "I need to get in."
"Get in where?" Sam asked and then looked to Steve who clenched his jaw knowingly.
"And I'm gonna take all the time I need Rogers," You told him sternly, already pushing by to get to the elevator, "Text me the codes for the rooms or I swear," You got on and spun to face the blonde, your blood boiling, "I'll start shooting my way in."
