I woke up early, the weight of the past few weeks refusing to loosen its grip on me. I had been tossing and turning all night, unable to stop thinking about Jason, which had left me restless and drained. Finally, I had decided to just get up. Not wanting to wake up Kayla, I silently made my way downstairs in need for some coffee.

I rummaged through the kitchen, opening all of the cabinets, in desperate need to find something containing caffeine, but there was nothing. I groaned and cursed our friend group for deciding to go grocery shopping in the morning and not having brought anything. Reluctantly I went back upstairs to grab some clothes and get ready for the day. I guess I had no choice but to go out and find some coffee.

I made my way towards the cabin's exit, once I was dressed. Just as my hand reached for the door handle, a voice sliced through the silence, jolting me from my thoughts.

"You're up early."

Turning, I found Jason standing there, his tousled hair and sleepy eyes suggested he had just woken up as well.

"Yeah, couldn't sleep," I replied, rubbing my eyes to chase away the remnants of fatigue.

He nodded in understanding, a sympathetic expression crossing his face. "I get it. Where are you headed?"

"I need coffee," I replied.

"That sounds perfect right now. Mind if I join you?"

I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I wanted company, specifically his company, but ultimately nodded. "Think we can take Lucas' car?"

"Sure. I'll grab his keys."

Together, we stepped outside into the crisp morning air, the silence broken only by the sound of our footsteps on the snow-covered ground. The sky was just beginning to lighten with the promise of dawn, casting a soft glow over the surrounding landscape.

We got in the car and drove to the nearest grocery store, having decided on grabbing a few essentials for everyone. We didn't talk, but the silence was comfortable, neither of us awake enough to engage in conversation.

As we arrived at the grocery store, stepping inside, the familiar scent of fresh produce and baked goods enveloped us, a welcome change from the chill outside.

We moved through the aisles in silence, each lost in our own thoughts as we loaded the shopping cart with food and drinks for the week.

At the checkout, we decided that Jason would pay for our purchases and we would all Venmo him our share.

As we loaded all of our groceries into the car, Jason suddenly told me to wait and jogged away. Confused, I watched as he disappeared around the corner of a nearby building.

Curiosity piqued, I glanced in the direction he had gone and saw him entering a liquor store. My eyes widened at the realization, the thought of him trying to illegally buy alcohol sending a jolt of apprehension through me.

He exited the store with a brown paper bag and a glint in his eyes, and I rolled my eyes at him.

"Didn't we bring enough already?" I asked as he reached me.

"None of this," a cocky grin appeared on his lips as he pulled out a bottle of rum from the bag, just enough for me to see it.

I scrunched my face up in disgust. "I hate rum."

"You do?" He looked at me confused.

"Yes."

"You never told me that," he said, looking at me amused.

"We don't exactly talk much," I countered, sending a flirty smile his way.

"You didn't hate it that night," he mused.
