Dexter waves at the deputy as he watches the cop car drive away from the house. He closes the door as soon as the car is out of sight and leans against it, closing his eyes as he hears Zoe calling out for the cat.
Going up to his room, Dexter walks directly into his bathroom. He looks at himself as he turns on the sink and splashes water on his face. He glances down at his bloody shirt and lifts it to finally look at the bite mark.
"Come on," he groans before grabbing a washcloth. He tries to clean off the blood but gives up and throws the towel in the laundry. Dexter strips off his shirt and gets a good look at the bite in the mirror.
He takes a deep breath, holding his emotions in. The bite doesn't bother him—he's used to it. He can hear Frank yelling at him—years of abuse in his head making him curl his hands into fists.
"You better not break that mirror, Dexter Rodger Klein," Zoe says as she steps into his room holding a terrified Chewie.
"I see you found him," Dexter says, lowering his fist.
Zoe nods as she kisses Chewie's head. "He was so terrified, poor little guy was hiding under my bed." With a soft meow, Zoe looks up and notices her brother's injury. "Want my help?"
Dexter shakes his head. "I think I might take a shower. I'll deal with it."
Zoe nods and turns around to leave. "Dex, I—" Dexter looks up as he notices his sister standing in his doorway. "I'm glad you're okay."
Shutting his door, Zoe sets Chewie down on the ground, the bell of his collar getting fainter as he walks away. She doesn't want to be alone—at least not in her room. She wouldn't be able to sleep with her thoughts.
So she ventures out to her backyard and into the garage. She turns on the lights, hearing the buzz of electricity as the garage becomes fully lit. Dexter rarely keeps the car in here; he only uses it for protection.
Next to the door is a box that holds all of their spare keys, in case they get locked out. She quickly grabs the car keys, turns off the lights, and leaves.
