Queen Lucy, despite her regal title, was only ten years old and full of youthful energy. She often wandered the grand halls of the palace, her golden curls bouncing as she skipped along, inspecting every nook and cranny with the wide-eyed curiosity of a child. It was on one such afternoon that she encountered Madeline, a girl of older age, who had recently come to the palace to learn the ways of court.
Madeline was admiring a large tapestry depicting a fierce dragon when she heard the soft patter of footsteps behind her. Turning around, she saw Queen Lucy, her small frame dwarfed by the grand surroundings, yet her presence commanding attention.
"Madeline!" Lucy said, her voice bright and friendly.
"Lucy" Madeline responded softly, dipping into a quick curtsy. "I was just looking at this tapestry. It's quite fascinating."
Lucy walked over, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "Oh, it is! I love the story behind it. They say the dragon was so big, it could have eaten the entire village if it wanted to. But a brave knight saved everyone. Isn't that exciting?"
Madeline nodded, equally entranced by the tale. "I wish I could meet a dragon. Well, a friendly one," she added with a giggle.
Lucy laughed too, her laughter a light, melodious sound. "Wouldn't that be something? Maybe we could ride it and see the whole kingdom from the sky!"
As they continued to chat, their conversation flowed effortlessly from dragons to their favorite books and the latest stories from the palace gardens. Lucy, despite her title, was every bit a child, and she delighted in having someone her own age to talk to.
"Madeline, do you like adventures?" Lucy asked suddenly, her eyes shining with excitement.
"I love them," Madeline replied eagerly. "I always dream about going on grand adventures, finding hidden treasures, and making new friends."
"Me too!" Lucy exclaimed. "Maybe we can have an adventure tonight. How about you come over for dinner? We can pretend it's a grand feast after a long journey."
Madeline's face lit up with joy. "Oh, that sounds wonderful, Lucy! I would love to join you."
"Great!" Lucy clapped her hands together. "We can dress up and have a royal banquet. I'll ask the cooks to make something special, and we can have all our favorite treats."
Madeline curtsied again, this time with a big smile. "Thank you, Your Majesty. I can't wait."
Lucy beamed at her new friend. "Please, call me Lucy. We're friends now, after all."
Madeline nodded, feeling a warm glow of happiness. "Alright, Lucy. I'm really looking forward to it."
As the two girls continued to chatter about their plans for the evening, they made their way down the hall, their voices echoing with laughter and excitement. The grand halls of the palace had seen many important meetings and serious discussions, but none quite as sweet and genuine as the budding friendship between Queen Lucy and Madeline. Madeline adored Lucy, she reminder her of her younger sister Cleo.
