Abhishek sat on the chair motionless, his shoulder slumped as he watched his team slowly losing the match. He felt like crying, from the start this match felt like sand slipping away from his hands. He felt horrible since he couldn't contribute anything for the match, it was such a good season, only for it to end like this.
He averted his eyes when everyone from KKR ran to the ground to celebrate their victory. He didn't want to feel envious of anyone, they worked hard for their win and they deserved it very much but it still hurt, so much.
Feeling a hand on his shoulder, he turned to see the concerned eyes of a certain someone who had become really important in his life from the past few years.
"Abhi," Mayank whispered softly, squeezing his shoulder in comfort.
"I'm fine," Abhishek whispered, turning away from those beautiful eyes, feeling like he would cry if he didn't.
Mayank didn't say anything but still sat beside him in silence. Abhishek blinked back tears at the gentle and comforting touch he felt at his hand.
SRH players headed back to their hotel after a while, all of them feeling very dejected. Abhishek rushed to his room as soon as they reached. Not being able to contain the overwhelming emotions anymore, he burst into tears. He sobbed loudly, all the what if's spiralling in his mind. Only if he had played good today. Maybe, maybe they would have won. He knows it's a team game and he couldn't possibly have done everything alone but he still couldn't help thinking about the difference his run would've made if he had scored good.
He looked up from where he was sitting on the floor when he heard a soft knock on his door. At the second knock, he hastily wiped his tears, trying to look normal as he went to open the gate.
Mayank could physically feel his heart breaking in his chest as he noticed Abhishek's swollen eyes.
"I got you food," He mumbled, passing Abhishek a small smile as he got inside the room.
Abhishek sighed, closing the door and looking at Mayank, "I'm not really hungry,"
"I'm not really asking you," Mayank muttered, placing the plate on the bedside table and then sitting down on the bed.
"Come here," He mumbled, opening his arms wide.
After a minute of just staring at him, Abhishek finally came and sat beside him.
"Come on, Abhi. I can't keep my hands up like this the whole day, they're hurting. Come here fast," Mayank whined.
Abhishek finally let on a genuine smile, throwing himself into the man's arms.
Mayank smiled, softly caressing his hair, "You can cry, haan, I'm here."
Hearing the gentle and understanding words, Abhishek couldn't help bursting into sobs once again. He clutched Mayank's shirt, wailing painfully.
Even though it shattered his heart even more than losing the match did, Mayank let him cry his heart out, softly rubbing circles on his back as the other man mumbled words too incoherent to even understand.
After he had calmed down a little, Mayank pulled back a bit, gently wiping the tears on his face with his thumbs.
"I feel so useless, Mayu. So damn useless," Abhishek mumbled, sniffling.
Mayank cupped his face, playfully narrowing his eyes at him, "Oye, mister, first of all you're not allowed to say things like that about my Abhi. Do you get that?"
Abhishek chuckled, a genuine laugh after a long time even though his voice felt extremely hoarse by all the crying.
"Abhishek sharma, look at me," Mayank stated firmly. Abhishek suppressed a smile, trying to look at him seriously.
