On Monday, the high school campus was full of commotion.

The school's messaging app nearly crashed at one point, really bringing a new meaning to breaking news. The students were in a state of frenzied shock. An anonymous post with no caption was released earlier that morning, but a picture was worth a thousand words, and the one attached to this post said that and so much more. It had the school in a chokehold. Messages overflowed on the post, and conversation was buzzing in the halls.

"Did you see? Alaina Montez and Damon Beaumont are officially dating!" someone announced, their voice a questionable mix of distress and amazement.

People were in disbelief. "I can't believe it! Didn't she declare war against them? And now she's dating him?!"

"Hey! I heard that the transfer student Alaina's boyfriend is V4's Damon!" Another shared with other classmates.

"That outcast . . . as Damon's girlfriend?"

"She's only been here for a few weeks, and she's claimed our idol!" There they went, always speaking of Damon like they had some ownership over him.

"She must have some dirt on him, there's no way he'd date someone like her unless he was being threatened."

"She's totally after his money, poor Damon, wait till he realizes."

A hush fell over the crowd when the star of the headlines made an entrance. Gasps and wide eyes looked up from their phones, as the girl they once pelted with eggs entered the courtyard. Alaina suspiciously glanced at the cluster of people gathering around her, any kind of group of people meant bad news. However, contrary to the hostile comments, she was beginning to gain a fanbase.

Crowds of girls came to greet her, ones who hadn't once acknowledged her or her presence. "Alaina!" One girl shouted with a smile. "You look so pretty today!"

Smiles and waves greeted her as she walked towards the front entrance of the school. "Hi! Alaina, hi!"

Two girls ran up to her, flustering Alaina when they linked arms with her. "Good morning, Alaina! How are you? You look lovely!"

"I'm good? Thank you, I guess?" Alaina uncomfortably shifted her arm.

Two more girls came running up from behind. "Alaina, won't you go shopping with us today after school?" One asked.

"I don't think I'll be free," she fibbed. They were suddenly friendly enough to invite her out, and somehow it still sounded like a trap.

"Alaina Montez, please make sure to come to my birthday party this weekend, okay?" Alaina accepted an envelope, looking down at the unusual invitation from a stranger.

"I'll . . . think about it," she stammered. There wasn't much thinking to be done. After the outcome of the last rich kid party she went to, she had no plans to attend another.
