Chapter Two • HELLO, Wifey
Isayah let out a heavy sigh as he dialed Solielle's number, his finger hesitating momentarily before pressing the call button.
The image of his irate mother's face flashed in his mind, her usually calm demeanor shattered by the news of his impromptu Vegas wedding.
Isayah still couldn't believe it himself - one too many drinks and a whirlwind evening had landed him in a legally binding marriage to a woman he barely knew.
It was the kind of wild, hazy story that seemed more like a movie plot than real life, and he cringed inwardly thinking about how his mother had reacted.
She had been beside herself, alternating between furious lectures and desperate pleas for him to make things right.
Isayah knew he had to do something, but the thought of tackling the tangled web of an accidental marriage filled him with dread.
As Solielle's face appeared on the screen, Isayah steeled himself, determined to have an honest conversation and figure out how to untangle this mess they had found themselves in.
There had to be a way to make things right, he just hoped Solielle would be willing to work with him on it.
"What's up," Solielle answered. Isayah gave her a head nod.
"Joe called me," Isayah told Solielle.
Solielle rolled her eyes. "Of course, he did because he and his wife think they are my parents and have to mind my business," Solielle said.
Isayah chuckled. "They're just looking out for you, that's all," Isayah said.
Solielle scoffed. "They can look out for me from a distance, and not all up in my personal space," Solielle said.
Isayah looked at Solielle and asked, "Elle, what are we going to do about this marriage?" He wanted to know her opinion on their accidental marriage.
Did she want to stay married and get to know him better, or did she want a divorce? Either option was fine with him.
Solielle avoided answering his question and said, "Elle? Why do you always call me that when everyone else calls me Soli?"
Isayah gave her a knowing look, understanding her attempt to deflect, but decided to play along. "Because I'm not everyone else, remember? I'm your husband," he said.
Solielle chuckled. "Oh wow," she responded.
The dynamic between the two was palpable, as Isayah wanted to have an open and honest discussion about the future of their marriage, while Solielle appeared more inclined to sidestep the issue.
It was evident there was an underlying tension and uncertainty between them about how to proceed, with Isayah waiting patiently for Solielle to be ready to confront the situation head-on.
"I don't know. Honestly, I'm lost for thoughts," Solielle said as she seemed hesitant to directly address the question.
The accidental union had caught them both off guard and now they had to navigate the uncharted territory of deciding whether to embrace this new chapter of their lives together or go their separate ways.
Isayah knew that in this delicate situation, he would have to be the one to take the initiative and propose a solution.
He understood that their impromptu marriage had caught them both by surprise, and they now faced the daunting prospect of deciding whether to make a genuine commitment or go their separate ways.
With a thoughtful expression, Isayah turned to Solielle and offered a compromise.
"How about this? We stay married like a trial run and see if we can make this marriage, and if it doesn't work, please let me know so we can get a divorce," Isayah told Solielle.
He emphasized that if it ultimately didn't work out, he would be open to getting a divorce, acknowledging that they shouldn't feel trapped in an unhappy union.
Solielle paused, clearly weighing the gravity of Isayah's proposal. She had never envisioned herself getting married, and the whole situation felt surreal.
Yet, she couldn't deny that there must have been a reason fate had brought them together in this unconventional way.
After a moment of contemplation, Solielle nodded, expressing that they owed it to themselves to at least make a sincere effort, rather than hastily parting ways.
Isayah couldn't help but smirk, playfully teasing Solielle that she just wanted to stay married to his fine self.
Solielle fired back with a confident wink, asserting that she was the true prize in this marriage.
The lighthearted exchange helped diffuse the tension, and Isayah laughed, sealing their agreement with the affectionate declaration of Solielle as his wifey.
Though the path ahead was uncertain, they had both decided to embark on this journey together, determined to see where it would lead.
