[A/N] I'm back from the dead bitches! idk what I had but lord above it really tried to take me out. I'm back writing so this probably going to be a lil rusty, I did a good read over of all the other chapters to get it all fresh in my brain and it made me realise that things need a pick up which I'll try to do over the next few chapters.

-Sam-

Morning was drab and grey; the castle had been eerily quiet for several days and started to resemble a graveyard. Whitemoon had a liveliness like no other place, wherever you went people were talking and gossiping, soldiers were shouting orders, and vendors, traders, and craftsmen were working together as an engine that gave the place its heart. When I returned everything had changed in such little time it was scarcely recognisable, now the heart had stopped beating and waited, fearing for what would be announced next.

The lifeblood of this place depended on peace and comfort as all things do but how could it flow now that each passing day could bring the call to fight? any moment could see loved ones fall on the battlefield never to come home. I shared in the unease and found myself pouring over as many distractions as I could find but to no avail.

Two days of his absence had brought me to Eynal's chambers in the North corridor the stone was whiter here and surrounded by generous heaps of groomed shrubbery.

"Good luck with that." His brother had told me when I had expressed my desire to check on him "Expect to leave with no head."

No one else seemed to be at this part of the castle the corridor could have accommodated at least a dozen people, but this is how he liked it, just pure solitude. I debated leaving for a few moments, it wouldn't end well just as Rob had said though I would be failing everything I claim to be as a person if I didn't check on a friend I worried for.

Eventually, I settled with a few short raps to the dark door and waited nervously for it to open. After a few seconds, a bang came from within the room followed by a groan. "Just come in." A raspy voice half yelled, muffled by the door.

I opened the door and entered as instructed. The room was simple only consisting of a poster bed, a bookshelf overflowing with books that had tried to be forced neatly into the shelves, and a large table to the left with several chairs skilfully placed around it the room was bare of decorations or memorabilia. At the table sat Eynal attending to a mountain of paper with no semblance of organisation, his hair was askew, robes frayed and worn he looked exhausted.

Curious, I approached and cleared my throat making him look at me through the curls draped over his forehead.

"Oh, It's just you." He grumbled, brushing the hair from his face and relaxing.

"Just me" I repeated. "Should I be offended?"

He feigned mock laughter and brushed his sleeves in an attempt to neaten them. "That's up to you." He responded. "Now what is it?"

My eyes widened in surprise at the obvious nature of his question, I gestured toward his dishevelled frame and pursed my lips.

"You worry too often." He said. He brushed aside a few pieces of paper and pointed to the chair to his left "Sit."

I took the chair and winced at the firm wood it was not comfortable I adjusted myself and sat taller finding a more comfortable position, but it just made me look self-important. "I worry only because you've been gone for a while and after seeing the state you're in well the mind does stray to unwanted thoughts." I expressed.

Eynal folded his hands together on the table and sat back. "Work occupies most of my time." He replied, "My appearance is not all together but I remain fine."
