Alice had been avoiding me all morning until we sat down together in the dining hall for dinner.

"How is the food?" I asked making small talk.

"It's good"

"It's good"

I nodded as we continued to eat in silence.

"Ok, this is freaking me out" Alice said putting down her fork. "I talked to your Mother yesterday. I understand why you lied"

"Just like that? you're not at all mad?"

"I still am a bit. But I've heard it from her side of the story. It was all about duty. I know how my Mother gets with me, so I understand from that point of view, but I want to hear it from your side"

"When I was younger. All I've ever wanted was to make my Mother proud and be the next Queen... I was sent to bring you here to slay the Jabberwocky so my Mother could take the crown so I could have that future... but when I came to London, you're family took me in, and showed me what a happy family looked like. Your family was like my second family. We grew closer and I realized I couldn't bring you here. I couldn't ruin your life. I built a life for myself, a life I wanted. I found Simon, and I love him so very much. I told my Mother I wasn't going to bring you here. That I wasn't going to take the crown when It was time"

"You weren't going to be Queen because of me?"

"It was my choice"

"If I know anything about duty, you should take it"

"I don't know. How am I supposed to tell Simon?"

"He loves you, he won't judge you... I mean, it took me some time to get through it"

"I doubt my mother is gonna let me leave after the Jabberwocky is dead"

"Just try to explain it to her. She'll understand if you are happy with Simon"

We ate the rest of dinner after I went looking for my Mother.

"Maria. Have you seen my Mother?" I asked as I found her in the hallway.

"I think she's outside, miss"

"Thank you, Maria" I walked outside and saw her on the balcony. "Mother"

She turned to me. "Hello, darling. How was dinner?"

"It was good... why weren't you there?"

"I was making preparations for Frabjous Day"

"Can we talk?"

"What about?"

"Mother, you sent me to London for five years. Why didn't you think I wouldn't build a life?"

"I sent you there for one thing and one thing only"

"I know you did... but, I was meant to find love eventually... can't we come to some agreement?"
