The next morning, Sam and Richie set out to find the home of Dewey Riley, retired sheriff and Woodsboro native. Sam wants to give Tara some space after last night's conversation and she figures Dewey will know how to help. He's survived all of the Woodsboro killings and used to be married to another Woodsboro native who authored the books that inspired the Stab movies, Gale Weathers. Dewey now lives alone and Gale works as a news reporter in New York.

Dewey is watching Gale's show when Sam knocks on his trailer door.

"Go away!" He shouts from inside.

"Sorry to bother you, Mr. Riley!" Sam exclaims, "We just want to ask you a few questions!"

"I don't give interviews!" He replies.

"We're not looking for an interview," Sam tells him. The couple hears footsteps and then sees Dewey's face from a small window in the door.

"Give me one good reason why I should talk to you," He demands.

"I'm Billy Loomis' daughter," Sam states. Dewey unlocks the door and pulls it open.

"That's a terrible reason for me to talk to you," He replies.

"My name is Samantha Carpenter," Sam states, "I was attacked last night at the hospital. The night before that, my sister was stabbed seven times. I know you know what that's like. I'm just trying to protect my family. Five minutes. That's all I'm asking."

He sighs, "I'll give you two minutes. I'm missing a show I like."

He lets Sam and Richie into his trailer, Gale Weathers on the TV.

"Gale Weathers," Richie comments as Dewey shuts off the TV, "Weren't you two, um..."

"Yeah," Dewey answers, not needing to know the rest of the question. Dewey shuts the door as Sam and Richie take a seat on his couch. He then resides in the arm chair next to the couch, taking a sip of coffee, "Who's he?"

"Oh, this is Richie, my boyfriend," Sam introduces him. Richie puts an arm around Sam with a smile.

"How long have you known him?" Dewey questions.

"Six months," Sam answers, confused.

"Did he know who your dad was when you met?" He asks, "Express any interest in Woodsboro or the Ghostface killings?"

Richie, becoming defensive, asks, "What the hell are you talking about?"

"Your killer's obsessed with the Stab movies, right?" Dewey questions. He then explains, "Well, there are certain rules to surviving a Stab movie. Believe me, I know. Rule number one: Never trust the love interest. They seem sweet, caring, supportive. Then welcome to act 3, where they're trying to rip your head off."

"I was with Sam in Modesto when Tara was attacked," Richie explains, taking offense to Dewey's implications.

"And let me guess, you were just in the other room, conveniently unaccounted for when she was attacked at the hospital," Dewey fires back.

"Okay, do I have to take this from shitty Sam Elliott over here or what?" Richie asks.

"Rule number two... the killer's motive is always connected to something in the past," Dewey continues as Richie scoffs at him.

"I'm related to Billy," Sam states.

"Right, but then why kill that random Vince guy?" Richie adds.

"That's for you to figure out," Dewey explains, "And rule number three, and this is the most important rule: The first victim always has a friend group that the killer is a part of. Does your sister have a close-knit group of friends?"
