"We've been locked up for hours," Jasper complains once he and I climbed down to rejoin the group. Four hours, to be exact. I'm catious of my exposed lower back - but no one in here has a fucking jacket. Why would you need one when you're sheltered from the heat and cold for your whole life? The concept of jacket's is peculiar on the Ark - but necessary when there are complications with vents. Mount Weather seems like a place to rarely have complications, at least before we arrived.

"Bellamy is here," Monty reminds him.

I scoff, taking my own fear and annoyance out on him. "We don't know where he is," I state. "I can only assume he was sent to the Harvest Chamber after detox." I don't call it by its real name. I don't mention the sign that is burned into my memory - linking the torture to its writing.

"What is detox?" My Isaac asks quietly. They've all been pushing for information, which I've only gone into great depths about the Commander: Lexa. However, as much as I appreciate it, they want to know how I am. Better, I told them simply. Right now, it is not true.

"Something no one should ever experience," I reply with a grim expression. "So there are children here?" I'm still confused that this is like a small town underground; With families and schools. Innocents.

"I mean, what did we expect?" Jasper replies.

"War-craving psychopaths?" I attempt. It earns me some soft laughs. "We can't kill them all." It's a statement rather than a question. My friends had told me their initial plan to change the filters - or something - and thus have radiation leak into the entirety of Mount Weather. But that would kill them all. I refuse to do that.

An alarm interrupts Jasper's follow up words. Lights blare above the doors. "They're here," Monty mutters, despair lacing his tone. As soon as the doors open, multiple guards rush in. I think I count nine but there are probably more. Each one has a gun raised.

"Back up!" They shout at everyone. I look behind me - they're all kids. Some might 18 now like my sister, but the rest? 15? 16? 17? I am not risking their lives. Me and my closest friends form a line at the front. We stand our ground.

Doctor Tsing struts down the middle path that has been cleared, stopping in front of her guards and closest to us. I think she's going to take me. However, the woman merely gives me a smile. She points at Noah. "This one."

As soon as a guard pulls the boy out of my right arm, I grab Tsing by the neck. My instincts to protect take over as I pull us to the side. "If you take him or anyone!" I scream, the scalpel I stole earlier now pressed against her throat. "I will kill her!" Maybe I should just kill her anyways? But then I need to think of the consequences; we would probably be shot down on the spot.

"Let the boy go," Tsing instructs with a wavering tone. "Now let go of me," Tsing's voice shifts to that familiar dominating authority, "or I will take you next." I push her away into a guard whilst another one twists my wrists to take the blade. Jasper grabs my arm as I fall back in line with Noah. "Choose someone else," she instructs. The guard grabs a blonde boy - Samuel, I think, from the side.

"Hey!" I exclaim. Fuck when will I stop being naive? But the guard closest to me forces us all backwards. I should have killed her. Gut wrenching screams follow Samuel out of the room and I am left with an overwhelming sense of uselessness.

The doctor composes herself, tidying her hair as if nothing happened. "I think for the time being, (Y/n), you will suffer more from knowing you're letting all these kids die instead of you."

I don't have time to reply before Jasper starts shouting. "We were told we could leave!"

"President Wallace had to step down from command." Tsing's tone is icy but her eyes are coated in mock pity. "I am so sorry."
