KAIRI

I threw my head back on the barber chair and laughed at what's on my screen.

I have never been the girl to find my phone to be the source of entertainment, but I don't get tired or bored of random, dumb, and funny conversations Junius and I have all day long.

I chuckle at his response.

"I didn't say anything earlier, but why does it look like you tried really hard to look bummy today?" Syd asks, taking my focus away from my phone as she scans me from head to toe.

I drift my eyes to where she sat across from me on the barber chair.

It's been busy all morning, but it always slows down when it nears closing time.

Somedays, we get more bookings than other days.

"That was my intention." I speak.

"Why?" She asks, looking at me crazy.

"Jamar is picking me up for a date after work. I hope that when he sees me, he changes his mind. If not, at least regret taking me out."

Syd laughs as she lightly smacks her leg. "Why would you agree to go on a date with him in the first place if you don't like him?"

I frown. "I didn't agree, I don't feel like explaining it, but it's his sister's fault."

"Why don't you call off the date? Just tell him you don't like him like that." She suggests.

I sigh. "Jamar doesn't get the hint. Besides, he has everything set. It won't feel right to cancel on him."

"That sucks."

"Tell me about it."

The shop door swings open, and we both turn our heads to look.

It's one of Syd's regular clients. There's specific clients for me and her, but there's some who don't care which of us cuts their hair.

Just as she greets him, my phone begins going off. It's Junius video calling.

I head for the hangout spot in the back room where our break room is located.

A break room with all the needed necessities and comfortable sitting options for resting.

I accept the video call as I sit on the two seat couch, and he shows up on my screen at a downward view. He flips his head back to get his green faded dreads out of his face before adjusting the camera at the perfect angle.

From what I can tell, he's outside in the cold weather, smoking a cigarette in shorts and a harley davidson t-shirt.

"Bear misses you and said if you don't come see him as soon as you get off work, he will never forgive you."
