"Hey, Soph... Wh-What are you doing here?" Joe stuttered, vividly shocked.
"Um... Working I guess." She chuckled. "I'm more interested in why you're here."
"I'm filming my talk show." He said, looking at the floor.
Ann stood behind him, holding his hand so tight that she started to dig her nails into his skin, but she didn't even feel it. She was petrified. She now remembered that they hadn't seen each other since the day when she found out about the baby in the hospital. The day her life changed completely. She knew Sophie hated her and she was scared to even look her in the eyes. Joe knew that and immediately stood in front of her, so she didn't have to face her.
"Wow." Sophie nodded. "Congrats."
"Thanks." He said quietly.
"Ann?" She raised her eyebrows, tilting her head a little. "You know that I can see you, right?"
"Yeah." She muttered against Joe's back.
"I'm not going to bite you." She chuckled.
She slowly peeked out from behind Joe and sighed, finally gaining a courage to look her in the eyes.
"Hey, Sophie." She said shyly.
"Hey, Ann." She gave her a weak smile.
"Look..." Ann started.
"Ann, don't." She stopped her. "I don't need to hear anything. It's been years, I left it far behind me, I don't hold any grudge against you."
Ann looked up at Joe, seeing that he was as shocked as she was, as he stared at her with a frown.
"Really." She chuckled seeing their reaction. "I didn't come here to bash your faces. I came to say hi."
"Well that's... unexpected." Joe scoffed.
"Why? I mean, I'm not gonna lie, you guys could have handled that way better. Dating a girl and not telling her you got another girl pregnant was fucked up, Joe."
"I know, Soph." Joe sighed.
"But as I said, I left it all in the past. Let's not go back there." She sighed. "How's the baby?"
"She's amazing." Ann smiled, happy with the way this conversation was going. "But her and Delphine are totally different."
"Wait... you've got two?" She widened her eyes.
"Yeah.." Ann chuckled, rubbing her neck. "Thought you saw in the news."
"Oh, I don't follow any news." She shrugged. "Well, well, well..." She nodded her head with a smirk. "Ann Hart... I'm sorry, Ann Jonas..." She corrected herself pointing at the ring on Ann's finger. "So you not only got him to marry you, but also have two kids with you. I'm impressed. Something I couldn't do for so many years."
"Believe me, wasn't that easy." Ann chuckled, looking at Joe, who just rolled his eyes.
"I'm happy for you guys. Like really." Sophie smiled. "So what, you live in New York now?"
"Yeah, I mean..." Joe stuttered. "No. Temporary, yes."
"Then I guess I'll see you around." She looked behind them and nodded her head. "Okay, gotta run. Nice seeing you, guys." He said with a smile looking at them once more, before disappearing in the crowd of people.
"Well that was... weird." Joe chuckled.
"Super weird." Ann said. "I thought she hated us."
"Well, life is full of surprises." He smiled, kissing Ann's forehead. "Come on, let's get back, before they start looking for us."
