Tw: Mention of Alcohol.
MYRA'S POV
"Wait, so you got into a fight with a patient? That too with Siddharth Kapoor?"
Stella's amused voice came through the speaker echoing in the whole car as I drove myself back to my house after completing my shift for the day. My grip on the steering wheel tightened at the mention of the earlier incident. I had never seen a more arrogant person than that tall grumpy man. Shaking my head, I let out a sigh before answering her back.
"Mat puch yaar, I was scolding Janvi over the phone and he thought I was talking to him. Arey! Mujhe to pata bhi nahi tha ki, koi or bhi hai uss cabin me."
Her soulful laugh came from the other line of the call, I could practically imagine her hitting her thighs and rolling over her bed. Leaning my head against the driver's seat, I waited patiently until she was done laughing. The constant sound of chuckles made me smile as well.
We went to the same school but different universities, our friendship pretty much survived through many friend circles and distance. Everyone else faded away slowly but we decided to stick together. Even when we don't talk for days, we click back immediately. There were only a few people I was grateful to have and Stella was one of them.
"Ok ok, but why were you scolding janvi? My sweet fangirl."
She asked in between her laughs while I rolled my eyes at her words. Janvi, my little sister has been fangirling over my bestfriend since we were kids. She really looks up to her. Biting my lower lips out of habit, I replied.
"We have to attend a wedding and she was making a fuss about what dress to wear. You know she has a habit of talking as fast as a train, so I just asked her to sit down first and then talk."
She hummed in response while I continued my rant about my day. That's when the actual reason I called her for, clicked into my mind.
With a slight apologetic tone I said."Oh and I will have to cancel our tomorrow's plan, we will be late tonight and I want to sleep in tomorrow's morning."
She let out a sigh, I heard some shuffling of pillows before she answered back.
"Koi na, I am used to this now. Since hamari doctor sahiba itni busy jo rehti hain."
"Like, you aren't the computer nerd who is always sticking to her screen."
I said matching her dramatic energy. We talked a little more until I finally reached home. God, I am really thankful to her for talking to me while I pass through these traffic loaded roads of Mumbai. Parking the car outside, I got off. The sight of my house filled me with a weird heavy energy, your house should be a place where you want to go after a hectic day but in my case, this place has only ever made me feel more exhausted.
My house wasn't too big but more than enough for our nuclear family of 4 members. With each step that I took forward the sweet fragrance of flowers filled my nostrils making me smile. My mother loves her small garden. With a ting, I unlocked the door with a frown, there was not much sound like the usual.
Our living room was the biggest area of the house, connected with an open kitchen and a dining table. Placing my bag on the dining table, I dragged my feet to the kitchen hoping for a glass of cold water to soothe my dry throat. That's when the sight of a glass filled with alcohol of my father hidden behind the microwave came to my view. I see this everyday, hidden at different places.
Sometimes it gets smashed during a bad fight yet this stubborn slow poison always finds it's way back to my life. After almost 26 years of my life, my heart still sinks down at this sight every daam type. Blinking my eyes, I turned my back to that glass before gulping down my water in one go. Sanvi, who was probably sitting in the living room, yelled out after hearing my footsteps.
