I sat on the bed, exasperated. I just wanted it to stop. Everything.
I looked around my room and it wasn't even the cosy kind. It was just thrown into place just so I'd have a place to sleep. I stared at the clock beside my bed and I sighed. It was past eight.
I took out my phone and I texted Kelsie. "Hey, what's up?"
"Trying to get my manager to eat my ass. Literally. He's being a little dick about me not cleaning up the mess I made in the kitchen."
I rolled my eyes. Classic Kel. She hated her boss so much to the point she'd even fuck him. I don't blame her. He was really hot.
He had tattoos all over his hands and his hair slicked back like he was a mafia leader. He had a thick beard growing on his face which might be inhabited by lice if he didn't clean it up.
He was tall. Like any other man in the state. He was built like a rock, and it was obvious he spent his mornings and late nights at the gym, pushing his body to his own version of perfection.
I could tell Kelsie really dug into this guy's demeanour and I did too. Except, I didn't say it out loud. She'd eat me alive. She had a glint of ferocity I madly adored and feared at the same time.
She was really amazing. She helped me survive my junior years and I really couldn't have made it without her.
"What about you?" She texted back.
"Dickhead is causing a scene." I texted back, feeling utterly overwhelmed inside.
"I'm sorry. How about we just hang out at my place tomorrow? Sounds good?"
"Looking forward to it. X"
I put my phone down and I sighed, feeling broken inside, spilling my own parts onto the floor. I wanted to be better. But I couldn't.
I wanted to put on a good show. Prove to him he couldn't break me. But he always found a way to. And it left me even more scarred.
I fell to the floor and I leaned my head on the bed, staring at my door hoping an angel in disguise could save me from this pain.
The door opened and Elora peekes her head in slightly, fearing I would burst out for her invasion of privacy. The angel arrived.
"Cora?" She asked, looking at me. I felt my mouth tug at the corner of my mouth into a curved smile.
"Hey." I replied. She stepped inside and closed the door behind her, worried if she could approach me or not.
"Are you scared of me, kid?" I asked. She locked both her hands together and kept her head low.
"I'm worried about you." She said, almost in a whisper. I smiled at her and I opened my arms wide for her. She took it as an opportunity to proceed toward me and she sat on the floor next to me.
She was awfully small. She fit perfectly in the loop of my arm and I wanted to just stay like that forever, never let her go. She looked down at her thumbs and drew imaginary circles in the air with them.
"What's wrong, kid?" I asked, knowing something was throwing her completely off.
"Are you okay?" She finally uttered, slowly looking up to meet my gaze. I smiled slightly and nodded. "I am. I'm a strong girl just like you. But I'm betting my ass off you're stronger than me." I said, rubbing the side of her thigh.
She stuck a frown on her face and she turned to me, so serious, it terrified me. "What's wrong, peach?" I asked, lifting her chin up.
"I don't want daddy to hurt you anymore." She said, furrowing her eyebrows so strongly I thought they'd meet.
