A T H E N A

"Good morning Athena" Alec's voice rang in the kitchen as he walked in smiling at me as always. It's 10 in the morning and he is already here.

That doesn't surprise me, Alec is somewhere in the house almost all the time. Makes sense since he's Nic's right hand and probably the only person working here that I can tolerate. I smiled back, nodding my head at him as I continued making my omelet.

Since Nic is no longer keeping my room locked, I have more freedom to leave the room whenever I want and this morning I decided to make my breakfast.

"Did you wake up today in a destroying mood?" He joked " Have your eyes on other expensive shits to demolish?"

I laughed, placing my omelet on the counter across from him while he poured himself coffee. I heard one of the guards caught at Alec's comment. I can't see them behind me, but I can feel their presence who are following me like dogs everywhere. My only personal space they don't violate is my room, but they are still everywhere.

"No, I woke up with a desire to smash your idiot of a boss's head with something heavy" I said loud enough for his guard dogs to hear but they remained silent. I expected Alec to say something in defense of his boss and close friend, but instead, he laughed, throwing his head back.

"You're aiming high, I like that"

He shot his eyes to the guards standing behind me close to the door, nodding at them. "I'm taking charge from here" he nodded his head in my direction

"But the boss said-" I recognized the voice of the older one of them. I believe his name is Rico, or so I heard. He is more frightening than the other one.

"Your boss is not here now, which means you answer to me" he didn't even give the man a chance to finish his sentence before making his final statement. His voice was even but not angry as he took a sip from his coffee. I heard no objections, only their footsteps as they left the kitchen, closing the door behind them.

''Thank you'' Alec just nodded sliding another cup of coffee towards me but I put it to the side. He raised an eyebrow in confusion ''I don't drink coffee"

He looked almost offended, I had to hide back laugh "How come you don't drink coffee?" I just shrugged.
I tried it once and that was it. The taste is bitter and I don't like it. "Then what do you use to wake up?"

"Nothing" I put my hands on the counter, shrugging "I don't rely on a drink to set my mood for the day"

He nodded approvingly with a grin on his face "Independent woman"

I let out a laugh " Yeah, I guess "

"I like that" he nodded " You're pushing all of Nic's buttons and I enjoy this shit way too fucking much"

I burst out laughing at his comment. Alec is such a good company that sometimes I forget that he's actually on my enemy's side and probably a bad man as well.

He doesn't look like a bad person now tho as we are talking and having breakfast. I ended up making him an omelet just because I felt bad eating in front of him. He assured me that it was not necessary and that they had a chef that would do the job, but I had no problem being useful around here.

We ate as we talked about most random things. Nothing deeper, but It's good to have some company. In another circumstance, I can see myself being a friend with someone like Alec.
