Journee

Dawn flickered just over the horizon's fine line, where sky submerged into sea, making its daily change of tint from indigo to cerulean. Nothing but silence could be heard for miles I imagine, with the exception of a bird's chirp or waves crashing soundly.

Here in this large cushioned chair, patterned with brown fabric and creme pinstripes, I rested my head back against it, getting lost within the view before me. Hands tucked between my thighs and abdomen, my thumb swiped mindlessly across the blanket covering me. A sense of longing combined with eerie peace circulated in flickers within my chest, tapping lightly at my heart with every few breaths as I watched the waters move.

Calmed by it, my blinks were slow as my thoughts roamed; tracing emotions of the past, present, and future. There was something there, in me, though I couldn't identify what.

It was translucent within the visuals of my mind, words blurred to my third eye. I suppose I'd find out when it was time. It would reveal itself transparent to me one day, if anything I knew that. Though I wasn't necessarily sure why or how I felt that either.

I'd had a dream last night, though it's memory slipped away in the mere moments of my wake. And only the feeling of it remained.

I don't think I could describe it even if I tried... Was it happiness? Solace? Tranquility?...

I felt like a breeze of spring air. Literally. As if I'd left my body behind and my spirit decided to join the winds. Much like the ones carried from the ocean. I felt...unburdened. Like a brand new sheet of paper carved from the most nurturing of trees. Like I wouldn't know fear if I'd looked it in the eye...

It should've scared me, waking up like that. I should've been panting and clutching my chest, in disbelief any human could ever experience such a thing. Much less myself.

I should've shed a tear, muttered in confusion, looked around the room to see if I'd died, something.

But I didn't do any of that... I didn't do anything.

My eyes had fluttered open and a grin had tugged my lips at the sight of Tiana next to me when I turned my head. I'd reached to stroke a soft thumb on her cheek, then let it trace the curve of her eyebrow. I'd used the back of my fingers to give her cheek another caress, migrating them down to the soft skin of her shoulder. Then I had laid a kiss where my hand left before pulling the covers back and getting out of bed.

Walked into the bathroom and everything, like it was any other day. Like the feeling didn't surprise me one bit... Why was I not scared??...

Chest slowly rising and falling, I let a soft sigh breathe out through my nose, my eyes trained onto foam seeping into sand and my mind somewhere far away.

A touch to my hair centered me back into the chair, having my head pick up as if I'd dozed off. Lips curling in, my eyes then beamed as they always did when landing on her in the morning.

"Hey you," Tiana whispered, bending down to kiss my head. "You alright honey?"

Nearing my shoulders to my ears and hugging my knees, "never better," I replied swiftly.

Laying her hand to my cheek with a soft look into my eyes, her thumb then gave it a swipe before she ambled out of my view. The next thing I heard was the bathroom sink running, leaving me to assume she was brushing her teeth.

It was then confirmed when a moment later she returned, and I didn't hesitate to lower my legs and open the blanket.

Like a child, she curled into my lap, nuzzling into my neck as her arms wrapped cozily around me. Bringing my legs up just a bit under hers, one hand ran along her thigh while the other rested atop her head, using my fingers to stroke softly at her hairline.
