CHAPTER 04.
FLIGHT OF THE DAMNED.
╚═══════✧₊∘╝The flying car leaves behind a trail of glowing golden mist and stars in its wake, lighting up the skies slightly, some muggles mistook such a sight as a shooting star streaking across the skies.
"It'll be a few hours until we get close enough to land" Sirius advises Mabel. "I don't know how clever these rebels can be?" Sirius has never faced off against the Squib rebels.
During his time during the last war he mainly fought against dark creatures and death eaters.
Mabel shrugs. "They are people that have never had magic before, and they are messing around with a highly dangerous form of magic. Read into that what you will" Mabel tells Sirius. "The soldiers are not the ones you have to worry about. There are...were...five generals of the rebellion" Mabel still recalls the sight of a lifeless body of that young boy, Caleb, who sacrificed himself to save Mattheo.
"They sound rather organised?" Sirius wonders. "How powerful can these generals really be?" Sirius asks. To a fully trained witch or wizard they can be challenging.
"They can negate normal magic" Mabel tells Sirius. "And the generals; the Sage, the Dark One, the Antler Queen, Malicos, they all use the corrupted Ancient Magic rather well" Mabel tells Sirius.
Sirius nods.
"The same type of magic that Artemis uses...that Amelia used?" Sirius always knew his wife was powerful beyond measure, but never knew it to be Ancient Magic.
"The key explains why they've been coming after her so hard for the past two years. They needed someone powerful in the ways of light Ancient Magic to open the device" Mabel wished she could have made that connection sooner. "It's my whole job to keep her safe, and I've been so blind to everything" Mabel curses herself.
Getting Artemis involved in this has almost ended up with her dead. Now they're heading into a place that is almost holy to the rebels, and they're going to have to fight like hell to beat them.
"And you do protect her" Sirius tells Mabel. The woman isn't too sure that she keeps Artemis so safe, not with how many times she has nearly died in the past year.
"I kept her contained, that doesn't necessarily mean that she's safe" Mabel tells Sirius. "Sometimes I do wonder if I have taught her more, or if she's the one that teaches me" Mabel laughs gently to herself.
The excitement for adventure is one that Mabel used to have during her time at Hogwarts, but since leaving it's been nothing but chasing one doomsday after another.
"A good teacher and student would be able to do both" Sirius tells Mabel. "Sometimes you teach her, and sometimes she teaches you, but you trust each other to have each other's backs" Sirius can feel a little twinge of jealousy if he's honest.
That Mabel, who is not one of Artemis' parents, has such a bond with the girl.
Mabel scoffs. "I don't know about trust. Willingness not to row with each other, maybe? But, trust seems like it is a little further off" Mabel cannot snap her fingers and change what happened that night back at the castle, nor would she.
Sirius looks over to the woman. "If you had let her go after Pettigrew then she would have killed him in anger, and that would have weighed on her much more than not going after him at all" Sirius understands.
He would rather know that his daughter is safe and healthy, and not eating herself up inside for murdering a man, than he free if she had caught Pettigrew.
