My name is Yukihiro Edwin, an imaginative 14-year-old middle school student living in the small town basks under cherry blossom groves, Sakuramura. I lived a rather peaceful life with my family and a few close friends, especially my neighbor and childhood best friend, Takayama Alice. I have several hobbies that I am passionate about, one of my favorite hobbies is playing a rather well-known trading card game known as Yu-Gi-Oh. My love for this type of game started ever since my parents bought me a legendary Cyber Dragon deck on my 8th birthday. It is the same deck that was once wielded by a certain illustrious duelist in the distant past, known for its firepower and beatdown playstyle.
My parents themselves were once popular duelists back when they were a lot younger. They used to be joining numerous tournaments as a pair and won each with flying colors. My dad specialized in fusion summon, while my mom was an expert at synchro summon. To my parents, dueling is more than just a game; it is a form of entertainment that connects one duelist to another. Sometimes people duel in to protect somebody dear to them. They relayed this story right after handing out my Cyber Dragon deck, listening to it inspires me to follow their footpath. I want to become a great duelist just like dad and mom!
As of now, both of my parents are being sent on an expedition in order to investigate some sort of anomaly occurring in the outer space. In their absence, they told Alice to look after me while they are away. My heart aches as I can hardly bear the thought of parting ways with them for as long as God knows. Why? Why does it have to be my parents to be the one chosen for the expedition?
-Outside of Yukihiro Residence-
Mrs. Yukihiro: "We will be departing soon. Takayama-san, would you take care of Edwin during our expedition? You and Edwin had been together since you two were children. As his mother, I believe that we can trust you with this task."
Alice: "No need to worry. I am going to watch over him just like a good big sister." (winked)
Edwin: "Alice, why would you say something like that? That's embarrassing. It's not like that we are actually siblings either." (Inner thought: even though you are 4 months older than I do...) (Blushes)
Alice: "You'd better stop complaining for a moment. There is nothing embarrassing about it, not when the only people watching are your parents." (Pulls Edwin's cheeks)
Mrs. Yukihiro: (giggles) "My, my. You two really are good friends."
Edwin & Alice: "We are not!!"
Mr. Yukihiro: "Edwin. I would like to apologize that we won't be able to see you in a long while. You have grown well both as my son and as a duelist. This makes me very proud as your father. Entrusting that Cyber Dragon deck under your care was the right decision after all."
Edwin: "But, I haven't mastered that deck to the fullest. Now that you and mom are gone from home for a long time, I have nobody to practice with. " (looks down sadly)
Mr. Yukihiro: "You can always ask Alice to be your practice partner, she is pretty good at dueling. Other than that, always remember that dueling is not about winning or losing; it is a form of entertainment that connect each other's heart. Each duelist has their own ideal over dueling. You got to find yourself one in order to improve into an even stronger duelist so that you can protect someone dear to you. As fun as duel can be, you must never overlook your main priority: school."
Edwin: "Yes, dad. I am going to find my own meaning of dueling one day and will never let you down. I promise to grow up into even better duelist by the time you and mom come home. Please be careful during your journey and good luck!! I am looking forward to all kind of stories you would tell there."
