At first the darkness of the tent must have deceived her, or her eyes were confused and dazzled by the recent glare of the stage lights. The blackness engulfed the sisters, leaving them in blindness. Eve clung tightly to (Y/N)'s arm. She was safe and that was all (Y/N) cared about. She could make out the murky silhouette of the ring leader bumbling around the stage, attempting to escape from the obscurity. The shrills of terrified children filled the tent, and even the cries of adults, who were still afraid of the dark. As a child, (Y/N) used to wake in the night and wish for the sun. The darkness worried her, her imagination supplied many beasts with fantastical jaws to lurk beyond the range of her vision. But now she embraces it. The gloom provides cover from the flesh and blood monsters of the day. The dark was her cover when she was on a case, it made her feel safe knowing she was the one in the shadows. But now there are countless shadows surrounding her. She was not alone this time. Fortunately, this was not one of the times she had read about. An employee with illuminated, red rods, guided the crowd out of the tent and freed them to the open air. Due to their previously amazing seating at the front, they were one of the last to leave. As they emerged out of the shadiness dome, Eve was still clinging tight to (Y/N)'s arm, her eyes squeezed shut. This was what she did when she was scared. She would cling to whatever she could and squeeze her eyes shut, and hope that everything would be okay. She would pray that (Y/N) would be there to help, and it took a long time for her to adjust at her school to not having (Y/N) there to reassure her of her own safety. She experienced many sleepless nights, hugging her knees and rocking back and forth, tears streaming down her face. After a short period of time, if there was no body to console her, no matter how small the fright was, she would start crying. The doctor said it was a build up of stress from all her dancing and intense training. It was an unstoppable wave of emotion, that only (Y/N) really knew how to prevent. Again, fortunately (Y/N) was there, and she gently soothed Eve back to her normal, perky self.
The pair wondered around the fair. Their first stop was the ferris wheel. The tall, circular structure sent shivers down (Y/N)'s spine. It was at least 100 meters tall, or at least it looked 100 meters tall when looking up at it. Eve excitedly dragged (Y/N) into the short queue, patiently but excitedly waiting her turn. The queue quickly decreased, seeing Eve and (Y/N) at the front of the line.
"Two tickets please!" Eve asked, buzzing with excitement. The lady lazily handed them two tickets, not once looking at them, instead chewing her gum, clearly bored and looking up at the sky.
"Enjoy your trip..." she said roboticly, causing (Y/N) to click her tongue in disappointment.
"What a rude woman," she commented, just out of earshot of her. Eve rolled her eyes with a smirk.
"Try and enjoy yourself for once (Y/N)!" she teased, causing (Y/N) to pout in disbelief.
"I am having fun Eve! I was just saying that that woman was rude!" She retorted. Eve just shrugged and looked out the window as their cabin rose higher and higher into the sky. Her eyes lit up, the reflection of the neon lights clearly visible in the reflection of her eyes. Her teeth were visible as her delightful smile grew while their view reached further lengths. They watched with unwavering gazes, as a fiery red orb of light slowly sank beneath the horizon, and threads of light lingered in the sky, mingling with the rolling clouds, dyeing the heavens first orange, then red, then dark blue, until all that was left of the sunset was a chalky mauve, and then that melted away in turn as stygian darkness took over the sky. Sequin-silver stars like the glowing embers of a dying fire winked down at them illuminating the atramentous curtain of sky, and then suddenly the clouds parted, and they found themselves looking at a lustrous, argent disc casting brilliant rays of moonlight onto the thriving fair ground.
"It really is beautiful up here (Y/N)" Eve hummed, her fingers resting on the rim of the window. The view was truly breath taking. (Y/N) could see the roller coaster, the screams of it's passengers flying through the air on their metal carriages. The maze of stalls, littering the fenced off area. And finally, the patch of darkness where the main tent was, causing a small giggle to escape (Y/N)'s lips.
"It really is isn't it," (Y/N) added. Eve turned to (Y/N) and hugged her.
"Thank you so much for bringing me here (Y/N), it's been really fun so far!" She beamed, her contagious smile causing (Y/N)'s lips to curl further.
"No problem Eve, unfortunately, this day being so awesome means that next month when you visit, I'll struggle to make it better!" she joked, getting a laugh out of Eve.
"Oh no! Don't worry about outdoing yourself each time, as long as we get to hang out, I'm a million percent sure I'll have fun!" she said, tightening her hug.
"Thanks Eve, but enjoy the view while it lasts, we're about the start descending!" (Y/N) informed her, resulting in Eve jumping to her previous seat, her eyes glued out the window.
