Chapter 23
(Xander'sPOV)
Homecoming was a success. For sure. I got Andy back, she's currently passed out in the passenger seat of my truck. I thought ahead earlier and brought 2 pairs of sweatpants and 2 t-shirts. So she's passed out comfortably. Those heels looked super uncomfortable so I quickly swiped her favorite moccasins too, just in case.
I was in and out of Wal-Mart and Little Ceasers within 20 minutes. I pulled into an old field about 25 minutes past the next town over. It takes about an hour, but the best spot is in the opposite direction and I had to get the pizza. It made sense to me.
I unhooked all the straps, removed the tarp and I was currently putting everything in place when I hear her soft voice call for me.
I quickly hop out of the back and run up to her door, opening it slowly. "Hey, I was gonna wake you up in like five minutes." I tell her, and she has a face of complete confusion on.
She looks around, and then looks even more confused. "Why are we in a field?" she asks slowly.
"Because I drove here."
She frowns. "But why?"
"Well come here and I'll show you why."
She frowns again, and at first I'm not sure why but then I realize she doesn't want to move. I put my arms out and she smiles again, then she leans over to wrap her arms around my neck, all while burying her face in my neck and wrapping her legs around my waist. This wasn't exactly what I meant, but it got her out of the truck.
I carry around the back and set her on the edge of the bed of the truck. "I know it's kind of cliché and overused but I thought you'd like it." I tell her honestly.
"I'm not sure what you're talking about but I bet it's great" she responds still looking at me.
I laugh, "Turn around."
She does and I hear her breath catch in her throat. "Xander" she says softly as she turns back around to look at me. "It's amazing." she wraps her self around me again as she had a moment ago. And we stay like that for a couple moments, me just holding her. She leans back to look at me, "Well, come on!" she jumps out of my arms herself this time and crawls into the bed of my truck where I have at least 20 different pillow and about 10 blankets. She makes herself comfy while I grab the pizza, doritos, and coke.
I hop in the back with her and set the food down.
"Food!" she yells, and grabs herself a slice of pizza.
I laugh, "So you like it?"
"Yes I like it! It is very cliché but that's okay. However, I do have a question?"
"Go for it."
"Where are we exactly?"
I laugh, "About a mile down the road from Ryan's uncle Brad."
She nods, "Ohhh. Okay, why so far? There's fields everywhere."
"Well, I did some research, and there were two fields rated the best in the county for stargazing, this one, and one right out of town the opposite way, and I had to get the pizza."
She smiles again, "Well thanks. It's perfect."
We sat there, across from each other for hours, the food had run out long ago, and we'd talked about everything we could think of. There was no forced conversation and everything was just so natural. Which isn't surprising, she is my best friend and has been forever.
