“Wren?” I part my dry lips, taking in a deep breath of the moist air before slowly peeling open my eyes. It takes a few moments to adjust to the stark light in the small room as I shift my gaze to the side, spotting Scott sitting by my side while Stiles lays sprawled out on the armchair beside Scott’s.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” I swallow before speaking, my throat painfully dry.
“I feel better. How’s Liam?” I question.
“He’s fine. We got him to Deatons in time to get the wolfsbane out of his system,” Scott explains. I nod my head slowly before moving my hand to feel the thick bandages wrapped around my stomach, wincing as the IV in my arm tugs at the movement.
“Did you find-” I trail off as Scott nods slightly.
“Garrett and Violet died the day we found you and Liam.” I feel a weird mix of emotions at his words. I know Garrett and Violet were the bad guys but it still hurts to know two people I once considered friends are dead.
“How long have you two been waiting here?” I change the subject, glancing at Stiles and his wrinkled clothes with an amused look as he drools slightly on the chair, his hair sticking out in funny directions.
“Since we were allowed to see you. My mum let us come in earlier, though, so we could be with you when you woke up.”
“And it’s been…?”
“Three days since you got out of surgery.” My eyes widen at Scott’s words.
“I’ve been asleep for three days?” How do I still feel so tired?
Scott catches me up on everything that's happened before waking Stiles up and going to look for Melissa.
“Okay, I have Reese’s, twizzlers, M&Ms, salted chips and beef jerky.” Stiles dumps his armful of snacks onto my bed while I shift slightly against the fluffy pillows to sit up a bit straighter.
“You sure that’s enough?” I joke, quirking an eyebrow as I pick up a pack of Reese’s.
“Uh uh, put that candy away.” Stiles and I both look up as Melissa walks in, followed by Scott.
“What? Why?” Stiles whines in annoyance before he quickly stuffs a handful of M&Ms into his mouth.
“You just got out of the ICU. That means no junk food till I say so, okay?” Melissa orders me. I sigh and nod in reply, putting down the chocolate while Stiles shoves the pile of snacks into his bag.
“So, how are you feeling, Wren?” Melissa questions as she walks over to my bedside and fiddles with something on the drip monitor.
“Tired. But my stomach doesn’t hurt.” Melissa nods with a slight smile.
“That’s the morphine doing its job. I’m just going to take a look at the wound,” Melissa explains before glancing over at Scott and Stiles, “boys.” The two boys take the hint and quickly rise to their feet.
“We’ll go grab you some proper food from the cafeteria. Any preferences?” Scott asks.
“Anything’s fine,” I answer with a slight smile before the boys turn and leave the room.
“Okay, let’s take a look.” I push down the thin covers and pull up my hospital gown to reveal the thick white bandage wrapped around my stomach.
Melissa helps me to sit up before carefully unwrapping the bandage down to the gauze plaster spotted with red in areas. I wince slightly as she peels off the sticky gauze that sticks to my skin, revealing the two and a half-inch wound pulled shut with a row of neat black stitches.
