POV: Tim

Dripping with sweat and covered in dried blood I continued to withhold information about the assignment. I knew that Angela was working on it, I couldn't jeopardise her position.

My mind drifted to Lucy again but I quickly shook that thought away. If I thought about what could have happened to her for too long I would break, and that was not an option.

"WHO DO YOU WORK FOR?" Hajek shouted again. "WHAT DO THEY KNOW?" he tried again to get me to talk, this time shocking me with his taser when I stayed silent. I felt the pulse travel along every neurone in my body.

"IF YOU DO NOT ANS-" his voice was cut off by the opening of a door to my right.

I sucked in a breath, fear seeping into my mind as I saw Lucy barely able to stand, staggering into the room. Her face was bloody and bruised. Blood covered her clothes that were ripped open. Her eyes were completely lifeless until they spotted me. Before she could even react Hajek and his crew pointed their guns at her. I resisted against the handcuffs trapping me to the chair.

"Don't you dare touch her." I stated plainly.

Lucy looked at me, pleading with her eyes. There was nothing I could do, I felt completely helpless. My eyes locked with hers and begged her to run.

"I swear to god if you do anything to her I will not say anything." I repeated, now seething with anger.

Lucy took a few staggered steps towards me in a daze. Before I could even process what happened, she collapsed onto the floor, blood pooling around her from a gun shot to her stomach. My eyes darted to Hajek's handgun that he was returning to his waistband.

"LUCY-" I couldn't help but shout. Her eyes were shut. She lay motionless. Blood continued to pool. I started to become dizzy, violently rocking back and forth on the metal chair until my head collided with the floor and I too was staining the floor red.

Three loud bangs at the door startled everyone in the room.

"POLICE. OPEN UP." no response. "WE ARE COMING IN."

Suddenly Hajek and his men sprang into action, rushing to the exit as Angela came rushing in with SWAT and paramedics.

"Tim, what happened?" she questioned as she unlocked the handcuffs and gestured for a paramedic to come and tend to my wounds.

Ignoring her, I staggered over to where Lucy was still motionless. Paramedics began CPR as they examined her wounds and rushed her away into the ambulance.

I stood, still dazed from my injury, in utter shock. Angela was talking to me about something but I couldn't quite hear. I couldn't move. Every part of me felt heavy until I snapped out of it and barked an order.

"They are getting away, come on we have to follow, we need backup and air support." Angela looked at me with saddened eyes.

"Vegas PD are on it, we need to get to the hospital. The shock will soon wear off and you'll be wanting some pain meds, trust me."

I jolted awake. I was in a brightly lit hallway with horrifically beige walls and an intoxicating sterile smell. Harper was sat next to me, looking incredibly sleep deprived.

"What's going on?" I questioned.

"You were discharged with minor injuries but refused to leave and fell asleep here." she answered slowly.

"How long have I been asleep? And why are you here?" I paused for a second, dreading the answer to my next question, "Is Lucy...." I trailed off not knowing how to say it.

"She's in surgery, it's been around 6 hours since she was brought in. They rushed her straight in, apparently they got her breathing in the ambulance. But Tim." She paused, "It's not looking good. You should prepare for the worst, I'm sorry."

I felt numb and so full of emotion all at once. I couldn't loose her. The thought of it made me sick. The way I felt about her was unlike anything I'd ever felt. I thought back to just before we were interrupted, wondering what would have happened.

"Go home, Harper. I'm okay, I promise."

A couple hours later Tamara came rushing in. "What the hell happened, Tim?" she sobbed as tears cascaded down her cheeks. I stood up, offering a hug which she instantly took. She cried into my arms as I spoke to her softly.

"She's in surgery, she got shot. They are gonna fix her, okay? Undercover mission went wrong, they figured out we were cops. I don't know what other injuries she has but the doctors have been updating me. The got the bullet out but she's not stable, that's all I know."

"Thank you." she whispered to me. "Are her parents here?"

"They were called but I'm not sure if they are coming." I replied, as we both sat down. The doors to the operating rooms swung open and one of Lucy's doctors approached us. I stiffened, dreading what he might say.

"She's alive and stable. There was a lot of blood loss and damage. We successfully stopped the internal bleeding but we won't know if there has been any brain damage until she wakes. She's extremely lucky to be alive." I took a deep, shaky breath and closed my eyes, relief flooding my brain.

"Thank you so much."

I was sat by Lucy's bed when she woke.

"That went well, don't you think?" she mumbled and my eyes darted open. I smiled at her when our eyes locked. I had missed her eyes. I glanced at her neck, a hand print was bruised into her skin.

"I'm sorry Lucy." I stated, knowing I was to blame had been eating me alive. "I should have listened, you didn't want to go with them. I'm so sorry."

"Don't you dare be sorry, Tim. This was not your fault, okay?" she firmly stated and smiled at me. "Can I ask you a favour though?"

"Of course, anything, what do you need?"
"Take me out on a date?" she asked softly, looking deep into my eyes.

"Oh I'm planning on it." I grinned and squeezed her hand comfortingly. "You did well, Officer Chen, the guy you fought looks awful." I added with a smile.

"Thank you, Sergeant Bradford." she smiled back at me.
